Using Sets and Attributes with Lower Permission level
Based on the File and Folder Permission Matrix posted on the help section of Autodesk, the minimum permission level for customizing attributes is VDUE and for assigning sets is Folder Control. Having these features also available on lower permission levels can allow the end-users to further organize/group their files without having the need to create additional folders based on specific groups.
The limitation of character count for the file directory when using Desktop Connector in Windows prompted us to actually limit the access of users so that once they have established their folder structure and permission level, the maximum permission level that we can grant them is VDU. This is being set so that the need/urge to create unnecessary folders just to group files for short term use can be minimized, for instance, folders based on specific dates. One workaround that we want to implement is to use custom attributes as well as sets to further add context/metada to the file as well as group these files as needed. The dilemma however is that, to use sets and attributes would require higher permission levels with "Edit" access, which means instead of actually using and leveraging these attributes/sets to organize their files, they can simply create yet another unnecessary folder to group the files they need, which is something we want to avoid considering the character limit for file directory. So having these features available on lower permission levels would be really helpful both for the implementors and the end-users.
