Exporting PDF's with Markups in the construction cloud

Exporting PDF's with Markups in the construction cloud

In Bim360 Docs we can export PDF's including their markups.

This is not available in the Construction Cloud, strangely enough.

I'd say a new platform should have all the availability as it's predecessor and more.

Anyway, we desperately need this as an option. Currently we cannot print/export pdf's including their mark ups in the construction cloud which is a huge issue.

I too am evaluating this, we also need the ability to Transfer Markups across versions during the Review process.  Tapping into the markup filtering system and being able to transfer selected markups from one version to the next would save a tremendous amount of time.

We are actively working on this. It will be available in future releases.

I'm in need of this as well.  Has anyone come up with a temporary work around until this issue is corrected by Autodesk?

@jennifer.sanita If you use the Desktop Connector  you can open PDF's saved in your project with a native PDF tool and redline your PDF's and save them back to your project. the Versioning will work the same but the Redlines will become a part of the PDF and then can be printed and shared with the document. Hope that helps!

@Matt_Keck  thanks for this, I tried but unfortunately existing redlines that were added in ACC are not there when I open the files in Desktop Connector.  !!

@jennifer.sanita ah my apologies I should have been more clear! I meant that if you use your native PDF redline tool to do your markups and save them back to the cloud. You can then share them and re-open and save them.

Correct the redlines and markups made in the cloud do not follow the file unfortunately.

Hello Penny and thank you for your reply.

In the meantime we figured out that in the 'Build' module which we can purchase separately, it is possible to export pdf's and their markups.

Do you mean by your message that the availability to export pdf's and their markups will be added to the Construction cloud as it was in Docs? So purchasing Build solely to be able to export Markups won't be necessary?

Thank you in advance.

@penny_yu The pdf markup export functionality is there now. But the markups are exported as an image more like a drawing on the pdf rather as a standard markups that one can actually comment upon.

Any update on making the markups compatible with Adobe reader?

@manW4NYS thank you for your attention. We thought about that indeed, but we decide to do snapshot markups first because it's not editable, so it stays true anytime. Would you please share your use case for editing it later? That would be helpful for us to understand this requirement. Thank you very much!

@penny_yu Thanks for the quick feedback.

Our use case is basically commenting on PDF files shared by contractors. We cannot expect all contractors to use ACC viewer for commenting/responses mainly because they have their existing processes.

The common method is to exchange the comments via PDF files back and forth.

If after exporting the mark-ups one cannot see who created them and also cannot respond on those markups using standard PDF comments, the purpose of exporting mark-ups is defeated outside of the ACC viewer in our case. This in-turn is prompting us to drop using the ACC viewer altogether.

I understand the intention of markups being true, but at least having the option to export the PDF with standard markups or as an fdf file in the near term would be of great help.

@manW4NYS Thank you for the clarification. I will send this for review.

Thanks @penny_yu. It would be of great help if this option is available in the coming updates. Happy to provide more details if needed.

Hello everyone,

@penny_yu , I understand that the export functionality is now available for the "Build" module within the ACC platform, as an engineering firm we do alot of markups on the designing phase of the project in the "Docs" module.

In BIM360 we could "print" PDF with annotations from the 2D sheets in our Revit models, mainly because our engineers want to keep backup copies of their design. I dont seem to see where this option is available in ACC - Docs module.

Thanks for your help.

@edgar.contrerasH34KJ  If you are printing to PDF from the Published Revit  Model under 2D sheets you should still be able to use the ellipsis in the top right corner of the browser window to print to PDF, not sure if this is what you are inquiring. if you open a PDF, there should be the options to export and print with the markups.  Let met know if that helps!   Print to PDF.pngPrint to PDF.png

Hello,

Yes, I am aware of the 3 little dots for printing, what I don't see is where is the "include markup" option ??

@Matt_Keck , thanks for your quick reply.

oh ok, that option is only available when you are reviewing the PDF in the cloud. I believe the workflow intent is for review and markups to occur on PDF documents. and the RVT file is a reference of the most current state of the model. For us we print out our shop tickets to pdf individually prior to review and do our redline review work on the PDF.  So using the ellipsis on the PDF document stored there you find the Export option. I would recommend print your sheets to pdf, save back to your project (maintain file name consistency for document compare and auto versioning) perform redlines, and export with markups.

Mhmmm, I see, what bothers me is that this functionality was available in BIM360 and now it is not.

@Matt_Keck , again, thanks for the quick replies.

@edgar.contrerasH34KJ Autodesk does this on purpose so you'll have to purchase another module in order to use functionalities which were free in BIM360.

In this case 'Build' has the option to export PDF including their markups.

Use the "EXPORT" feature when reviewing on the CLOUD.  Make sure your web browsers Pop Up Blocker is allowing the next Dialog Box to open.

we also need this for a job we're doing and it's really slowing our productivity not having it. We've done markups to a published set of drawings and we dont have the option to export them as Pdf's with the markups on them, as we used to... @penny_yu
