Autodesk Desktop Connector - option to change standard folder path (mapping)

Autodesk Desktop Connector - option to change standard folder path (mapping)

It's very important for our firm to change the standard path, or the tools is not usable for us.

Please ad this option like in Windows for pictures, videos, documents or in OneDrive to move the standard path to another place (drive).
It also solve limitations in diskspace from drive C (SSD).

Thanks a lot.

It's very importand

I have the same need. I would like to install BIM360 Team in the company server but I am not sure how to do it (or even if it is possible).

I think this is a very important function. I have all my work materials stored on drive D:\

I work with AutoCAD Civil 3D objects (Data Shortcuts / Data References). Data Shortcuts (DS) are XML files which points to the Civil 3D object stored in a DWG file (with full path). And using Autodesk Desktop Connector (ADC) works fine when you work alone on a project. ADC will update/synchronize Data Shortcuts (DS) nicely.

But ADC uses my USER PROFILE as the local storage location. If or when a team worker would work on the same project, he/she will get an error on using/synching the Data Shortcuts. The only solution for him/her then is to update the DS, which will point the DS to her/his USER PROFILE. But that will only fix the issue for him/her. And it will definitely brake the DS to other users when they sync the Data Shortcuts.

So it would be a very helpfull feature to make it possible to have the option to install the ADC on a common local folder path, very similar like Vault does when setting up the local working Folder.

This way you can agree with team members to use the same local working folder path, like a common data environment (CDE), which will in return sync all data and data shortcuts just fine and without having broken references.

I know this idea is a bit old, but I'd like to see this too - in my institution we use roaming profiles and the current location of the BIM360 drive clogs it up, so causes users lots of hassle.

This does need attention. I cannot fit all the data that I need to download onto the c drive and need to be able to path this to a different location. Also I need to be able to free up the space on my machine without deleting the file on the BIM360 site.

Basically I need the same functionality as a synced folder in SharePoint.

I agree. It is unusable for us unless we can change the file path to a larger drive.

Unfortunately not having the option to path to an external drive for cached data eliminates many of our consultants from being able to contribute on multiple, large projects.  This option is needed if BIM 360 is to be a viable solution for many remote teams.

Is it possible to create a desktop shortcut to a regularly accessed file within the BIM360 Docs desktop connector?

Having to browse down through the entire file folders structure is very time consuming and feels counter intuitive with a CDE environment.

It would be great if we could drag attachments from emails into the the BIM360 CDX as well, have to drag to local then to CDX is quite painful!

I voted yes. My condition is that I am using a laptop with not a big SSD hard drive. I have SD card expansion but the current Autodesk system doesn't allow me to relocate the folder. I only have 40G space after all software installed now. If I synchronize the file, the laptop won't work at all.

Please help me solve this issue...

Thanks,

Phil

Has there been a solution this this issue? It's difficult to fully embrace BIM360 with obstacles such as this one. We basically need to change where the local BIM360 files are stored. It would be even better if the local files followed the same folder specified in Revit for normal local files (under options, file locations)

I'm also following this post. I cannot have  all these files on my operating system drive. I am currently trialing BIM360 docs and will not purchase if I can't change the save location.

Add me to this list as well.    For large collaboration projects, I can have a few hundred gigs of other people's models.  Not including my own.  I must have a way to link in everyone's model.  My SSD is too small to handle more than one project at a time.  I need to have a way to move these files.

Similar issues for me to others who have commented. I have a 128GB SSD with less than 1GB of space. I have moved what fiels I can to a separate almost unused 1TB drive but my companies IT policy/permissions restricts me from freeing up any more space. I regularly drop to zero disk space while using BIM 360 Docs through desktop connector.

You can relocate the Revit Cache data using a symbolic link, it should be possible to do the same with the BIM 360 cache.

+1 on this one... I can't understand why ADSK is lacking in this functionality, as it is present in any cloud drive sync type app.  Dropbox, Box, Egnyte, Google... the list goes on.

Should be able to point to D:\ or anything else either for storage considerations, or team workflow path, etc.

Yes, mklink will work in creating a common path so all links and x-refs work, but it does not address the storage issue.  Like many others, my C:\ is limited in storage, but I've got many Terabytes available elsewhere.

Seems to me that once again Autodesk push their products to the point where unfortunately many clients are left with no alternative but to use Autodesk products even thought they lack true interoperability .  The least they could do after taking our money, is listen to their client/user base and consider allowing such setups/changes to be available to their end users.

Saludos.

No solution yet?, I also need to map the default folder to where all the work actually is, not the "C" drive, Autodesk is very good at making your life very difficult for no apparent reason, I am just uninstalling it until a solution is provided, this is just another feature they offer as a bundle to make it more more appealing and expensive but we can not use it...

And now Autodesk changes the name of the fix folder from bim360 to accdoc in the latest release of ADC CONNECT Help | Desktop Connector Release Notes | Autodesk (For rebranding)

So now we all have to figure out have to avoid "auto update" from bim360 to accdoc. This would be easily solved if we could change the path as part of ADC, right now we are doing this in the XML setup file... aarg
