Allow editing of consumed models.

Allow editing of consumed models.

Allow editing of consumed models:

  • Purge and delete unneeded content from consumed linked models (sheets/schedules/details/etc...) to improve performance of host model.
  • Correct line weights. Line weights of linked models trump host model when set to <by Host View>. Large discrepancy's in line weights affect the validity of the host model's views.
  • Correct workset of shared levels and grid elements.
  • etc...

This is a critical need, we can't use BIM360 linking without it.  We work with a variety of consultants, our consultants work with a variety of Architects, each of us with our own different Revit standards and abilities.   There are always edits that need to be made to the linked copy of someone else's model when we issue our deliverables.

In addition to the above list:

  • Color overrides of piping and duct systems
  • Mis-named worksets / objects on wrong workset
  • Added Grids and Levels
  • CAD Imports
  • Model Linework
  • Generic Models
  • In-place families
  • Modeled symbols
  • Light fixtures hosted to floors

I totally agree that the editing of consumed models should be available, what is the real benefit of linking from a consumed folder rather than a shared folder if this is not an available function.

In addition to the above list:

  • Nested links, ability to change "Reference Type" and "Path Type"

Another reason it may be useful to open directly from Consumed (even for a Read Only) is to produce a .ifc from the Consumed files.

At the moment the only workflow for this is to download the Consumed file, all of it's linked files. This takes a while as the download speed is very slow, and the file and it's links are quite large.

Ability to open/edit a consumed model without downloading it and re collaborating to cloud would be a huge improvement to BIM 360 workflow.

This is critical for us as well. As an MEP firm we are constantly massaging architectural files especially to suit our needs. Simple things like fixing grid and level worksets to more critical things like deleting lighting fixtures that are cutting holes in ceilings, changing linked revit files to overlay, etc.

Not having this is causing an incredible amount of workaround effort to get there on our end. Like @david.lywood said, what is the point of each team having a set of their own consumed linked models if you cannot edit them let alone open them.

I agree that that we need to be able to edit the consumed model, to include anything listed in the "Common Categories" below.  Various disciplines may typically use Linked View properties in their own View Templates for plans, sections, elevations, so it may be acceptable to disallow editing of for example the below "Other Categories".  Not sure if such a dialed in request is helpful for all consumed models, but it might help for published models to not be mis-used by various stakeholders.
