Good point, there are indeed other dwg editors and with various advantages I am guessing.
I think most of the major 3rd parties like Carlson do work on Bricscad, but I think the intellicad set is cheaper so they push that more. Its been a while since I checked on them.
I'd be curious to hear why you would not go bricscad if looking for acad alternative.
Bricsys do not sponsor me, all this is my own ramblings.
Speaking to all potential readers, not just you, James.
From Wikipedia: IntelliCAD is a CAD editor and development platform with an Application Programming Interface API published by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) through shared development.
About 20 ITC member companies have "CADD" products that utilize the IntelliCAD engine. These programs/apps/add-ons are often industry pacific. This is not unlike the AutoCAD verticals that, until recently, were sold/marketed/leased separately. Bricsys and Carlson are both members of ITC and have IntelliCAD-based products.
I suggest that a potential customer comparison shop and then choose what they think is the optimal fit and best value. I believe that Bricsys has several products at various prices. They seem to put a lot of effort into marketing. I certainly would not eliminate them from consideration, but I do not know if they are the best choice in all cases.
Having used AutoCAD products for decades, I have realized that "Best in Class" and "Less sucky than the competition" are semantically equivalent.
