+1 on the complaint about autodesk desktop app. Since installing Inventor 2019 my desktop app crashes consistently upon startup. I'm looking for ways to disable it, because it has been a source of issues like this for "YEARS". This desktop app is more problem than it's worth and all I really want to do is disable it...better yet NOT install it as part of the installation package. Autodesk: are you listening?

This desktop application offers no benefit, nor has it ever offered any benefit.

Autodesk, can you please add this to the list of optional installation items?

Hello @Anonymous,

Did you uninstall the app as indicated above?

Do you know if your Windows profile has Administrator permissions (full control) the app needs these permissions to read /write to user folders.

Please try the suggestion above to uninstall & reinstall the app, if you have not already. Thank you.

I still have problems with it. I just go into task manager and end the process and go to reopen it and it works. I have to this every day to get it to work.

Hi

The ADA seems to be a sensitive program and it runs into conflict issues with other software, mainly the ones known as bloatware that come preloaded into new computers from Dell, HP, etc.

I recommend these actions to resolve your issue (or at least to troubleshoot it):

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the ADA. Install the latest version and it does the uninstalling of the old one!  https://emsfs.autodesk.com/utility/adskapp/landing/?source=marketing

2. Make sure ADA is set to update itself automatically

3. Uninstall ALL bloatware

4. Make sure UAC is rolled all the way down

5. I assume you have the proper permissions to install stuff?

I even made a video for you: https://www.screencast.com/t/JEfrTrk3

Try these and then reboot and let's see!

hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting your issue on forum. This issue may occur due to either:

  1. corrupt install of ADA
  2. Unable to upgrade ADA to newer version
  3. Firewall block for ADA service

Please try the below article on how to resolve this issue:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Desktop-App-freezes-and-shows-a-blank-white-screen.html

Can you send us the log files to investigate?

Regards,

Manu

I have basically tried these directions and when I run the ADA.exe file I
just get the white screen again.

Also, when trying to run any of the Autodesk programs the loading screen
shows for a few seconds and then stops and nothing further happens.

A few weeks ago I began having a run problem with another program (not
Autodesk) that when I started the program I would get a box that was trying
to open Windows Installer and attempting to "install" something from REVIT.
It just locked the computer and the only way out was through Task Manager to
end the process. This problem has persisted and nothing I have done has
fixed that issue (running that program). I believe Windows Installer has
become corrupted and is somehow embedded in that program. And because of
that Autodesk products have now been affected. No other programs seem to
have a problem.

I have recently installed Revit and other Autodesk programs on an external
HD to free up space on my laptop computer, but up until just yesterday this
was not a problem. Or so it seemed.

Where are the LOG files you asked about?

Problem is, a lot of us in a corporate environment do not have access to admin rights without a long process, and even then only temporary access is granted. Bypassing firewalls and virus software is never allowed. These are not acceptable "fixes".

This is my work ID, since now your ID is associated with your software.
My other ID is Julesagainn.
AutoCAD user since 1988.
