In the Autodesk Community Conversation called Revit Hints & Hacks: Stairs and Railings, I showed how to sketch a stair. Within a day or so I got tagged on LinkedIn with a post about a rail that was challenging someone. I was able to complete a stair and rail to match the one on LinkedIn but found there was a little difference in sketching this stair compared to the simple sketch I did in the video. (Both links are below.)
On LinkedIn I see this picture with the rail not following the stair because of the way they are modeled with what appears to be slabs for the final four steps.
I set out to do stairs to fix this issue and found that I could not pick the lines for the risers like I did in the video when I had a straight run of stairs with a curved edge on the lower portion of the stairs. With this exercise I had to use the draw line option and draw each tread line individually. As soon as I used the pick line method it set me to one riser and 17 remaining every time and I could not get it to let me pick line and it add a tread. So I drew each tread individually. The bottom ones are three lines for the tread.
That screen capture is in Sketch mode for the stairs so that the colors of the Boundary, Stair Path (not noted), and the Riser lines can show better. The Boundary is green, the Stair Path is blue, and the Riser lines are all black. I did not note all the Riser lines beyond where the stairs are a straight run.
Once complete, here is how the stair came out.
