Persistent Update

Autodesk Access keeps showing an update for ADP Desktop SDK. I install the update, but when my system restarts or Access restarts, the updated shows again.

Access Version 2.13.0.173

I have tried uninstalling Access and re-stalling, but same thing happens. I even tried following the instructions to refresh the cache folder, but the SDS folder doesn't seem to exsist.

Any help would be grateful.

@bshbsh,

Sometimes (often) Autodesk's support articles can't keep up with their own changes.

The "Desktop App" has been replaced by "Access," so unfortunately the link you shared is outdated and no longer applies.

I assume you have Access, since you're in this thread.

If you want to reinstall Access, you can download it from the link @pendean shared.

Regardless, the consensus is:  This update was showing up by mistake, and you do not need to install it unless you have installed the Autodesk Software Development Kit.  It will disappear eventually.

To those saying not to use Access:

I act as my company's BIM manager, but it's really secondary to my architectural project responsibilities.

Access notifies us of available updates, and I send invites to our end users who each install updates themselves.

When it works, Access makes it easy to find and install updates, as opposed to searching the Management Portal for each update.

For those who don't use Access, how do you know when updates are released?

Do you just check Autodesk's Management Portal daily/weekly for all updates, and instruct users to download from their account?

We do not have Software Center or any similar method of pushing out updates.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Most seasoned Autodesk Software users are gun-shy about being first to install anything new, updates included, and are judicious about only installing updates that solve a problem they are facing (aka then read the FAQ to decide).

IT folks handle/pushes out installs for their managed users based on CAD Manager approvals and guidelines, most corporations never leave it to individual users to install/uninstall software.

TLDR: FOMO is bad, solving a problem is good.

@pendean

Thank you for the feedback, and I agree on all fronts.

I've been tasked with getting users to update their own software...

Access does (typically) help simplify things for the end users, and I do wait, test, and schedule updates that I deem applicable/necessary.

I may consider removing Access from end user machines, downloading the updates myself to a shared location, and having users grab them from there.

Software Center or equivalent would be great, but I'm not IT, and have no access to a better workflow, so just working with what we have.

Thanks again!

It sounds like the update isn't properly registering as installed. Try the following steps:

1. **Uninstall ADP Desktop SDK** – Go to *Control Panel > Programs and Features* and remove ADP Desktop SDK.
2. **Manually Download & Install the Update** – Visit Autodesk’s official website, download the latest version, and install it directly.
3. **Clear Autodesk Access Cache** – Close Autodesk Access, delete cache files from `C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Autodesk Access`, and restart your system.
4. **Run Autodesk Access as Administrator** – Right-click Autodesk Access and select *Run as Administrator* before installing the update.
5. **Check for Background Processes** – Open Task Manager and ensure no Autodesk processes are interfering with the update.

If the issue persists, consider reinstalling Autodesk Access or reaching out to Autodesk Support.

I send invites to our end users who each install updates themselves.

There's a couple of problems with this. First, users need Admin permission to install (Autodesk) things. Second, having users install updates may leave you with pc's running all kinds of revisions. For things like AutoCAD, this is no problem, but with Revit it is. Especially when using work-shared projects.

how do you know when updates are released?

Like you say - check the Autodesk Account page.

As for installing updates, I use a Domain Shutdown script. Assuming you use Windows domain-joined machines, you can use things like Startup, Login and Shutdown scripts to perform all kinds of tasks domain-wide from a single place. Since installing Autodesk updates tend to be time-consuming, I use the Domain Shutdown script to install them. So if a user at the end of the day shuts down Windows, the Shutdown script will be executed and do its thing and when finished, the pc shuts down.

I can elaborate on this if you like?

Catching up on threads here.  This was an issue with the update's release and our backend data that caused it to appear.  We have addressed the data issue and it should no longer be showing in Access.  Apologies for the confusion.

There is no fix, all you get to do is play a game of whack-a-mole over and over and over again with the ACCESS tool. Learn to ignore it if you know better, or uninstall the tool.

This error-prone junk tool has been driving users crazy since it's three other older brand-names for over a decade now.

You are seriously 100% wasting your time. End the madness 🙂

This 'ADP Desktop SDK' sounds like some kind of Software Development Kit. I've seen questions about this before, thinking the user in question had somehow installed a kind of SDK. And then, last day, I was browsing folders and stumbled across C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk\AdpDesktopSDK. There is it - the SDK I surely didn't install. It must have been installed by other Autodesk software. Having a look at the exe files, one of them is named ADPClientService.exe which apparently is a euphemism for spyware, since the details list it as 'Autodesk Analytics Client Service'. There's also some SSO and Identity stuff in the same folder? Looks like a mixed bag.

Anyway, when I search the Product Updates for 'Analytics Client Service' it doesn't list any. Same for a Google search. Apparently, it's an update solely offered by Access?

Hi all,

Thanks for your patience on this issue.  We pushed a new version of Access live yesterday that finally addresses this issue.  If you're still seeing it after updating Access, let me know.  Release notes pending, but here's the content:

June 2025 - v 2.15

Download Autodesk Access

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue where Access briefly showed an incorrect "ADP Desktop SDK" update in the list of available updates.
  • Resolved an intermittent crash that occurred on some machines when Access attempted to fetch available updates.
  • Resolved minor defects.

Regarding ADP Desktop SDK, it is related to product analytics, and you can find more information here: https://www.autodesk.com/company/autodesk-analytics

Can you Quit Access from the System Tray, delete the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS\localcache.db, then restart Access?  There may be some lingering data there, and refreshing this cache may help.  Ensure you're on the latest Access also, 2.15.x.  The build doesn't matter.

Hi,

why doesn't Access itself offer this update? Nor it's under my product on the Autodesk site? Do I need to hunt down and download and install all updates myself? That'd be what Access is for, wouldn't it?

Also seeing others still getting the ADP update with this new Access that supposed to fix it, I'm reluctant to even try it (619MB, for this piece of, that doesn't even work, ffs.)

edit: well I tried it and installed it, still no good:

Hi,

Did you try the fix which @danny.polkinhorn recommended: quit Access from the System Tray, delete the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS\localcache.db, then restart Access.

These are certainly valid reasonable questions.  Early decisions (years ago) on the architecture of the Autodesk Installer prevent it from using itself to update itself.  A better approach would be to use A/B installs and this is something that we plan to do now that it is much more apparent that this is better for this situation.

As Jorma suggested, please Quit Access from the System Tray, delete the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS\localcache.db, then restart Access, and let us know if that works.  There may be lingering items there that aren't needed.  If not, please collect the logs and send them to me.

Here is my latest findings to "ADP Autodesk SDK" update missing case

ADP Autodesk SDK update message is visible in Autodesk Access.

- Update to latest Autodesk Access.

- You will still see your device missing ADP Autodesk SDK.

- Do the recommended fix: quit Access from the System Tray, delete the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS\localcache.db

- ADP Autodesk SDK message is gone.

- Now you will see what other Autodesk updates are missing like for ReCap 2025.

After removing corrupted localcache.db all installed Autodesk software are scanned.

Autodesk Access will start working again offering updates which are really missing.

Conclusion: Always after Autodesk Access update remove also C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ODIS\localcache.db.

When updates are pushed from Intune or SCCM nobody is checking is the localcache.db corrupted or not.

Hi Jorma,

It should not be necessary for you to remove the local cache, we need to ensure that it is always up to date.  When installing updates via SCCM or InTune using our installer, we will update the local cache at install- (or uninstall-) time.  If you're using MSIEXEC to install updates (which you shouldn't do), our installer may not be aware of those until our cleanup cycle which should happen within 24 hours.  I will follow up on these use cases and see if any improvements are needed.

Thanks for the feedback!

-Danny
