Hide/Disable Autodesk system tray icon issue

Hello,

I'm coming to you because since the deployment of Autodesk design review and other AutoCAD products via our software center, the Autodesk system tray icon opens regularly even if there are no updates available. That's annoying for the end users and anyway our updates are deployed via the software center.

I followed this article:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Disable-updates-In... to create the registry key.

That key was already present in the registry.

But when the computer starts up, the system tray icon auto Autodesk Access (version 1.40.0.24) is still present.

I really need to hide/disable that system tray icon that pops-up to many times.

Is anyone experiencing the same problem with Win 10/11 X64?

Thanks in advance.

Is a Right-click on the icon then select QUIT not an option in your corporate locked-up logins to your users' PCs by chance? Give it a try, my users can do that.

Windows Task Manager's Startup Tab option of disabling it also not an option for your users' PCs for a reason? I just tried it, restarted my PC, and it is still disabled.

Not sure we all need to hack the Windows Registry all day long just to turn off pop-ups from programs that exist to only provide pop-ups.

Hi pendean,

Thanks for your reply.

The fact is that i have to deploy this change on a few thousand computers on  several sites.

I think the easiest way to do it is using the registry key provided by Autodesk:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Disable-updates-In...

Unfortunately,  on a test computer it does not work, the tray icon is still present a startup after reboot.

So I wonder if someone here has already succeed to use/deploy that registry key and make it work.

I need option 1.

Possible values:

  • 1 - Access will not start during device startup, and the system tray icon will not be shown. Users may still launch Access from the Start Menu, but when users close Access, it will quit the application and remove the system tray icon again.
  • 2 - Access will show available updates, but will not display an Update button. Users will be able to see information about the updates, but cannot install them from Access.
  • Create a new key in the HKCU/Software/Autodesk/ODIS folder.
    • Key name: DisableManualUpdateInstall
    • DWORD value: 1 or 2

Best regards,

Azziz.

I set this on my test device and it works as expected.  The only thing I would recommend is to check the root location is the Current User and not Local Machine.

Hope that helps,

Disabling the Autodesk Access Service Host service doesn't seem to pose problems and no icon in the System Tray.
