Plant 3D 2018 Cut Piece List Does Not Add Field Fit (makeup length)

Hello,

The Cut Piece List on spool ISO is not including the makeup length in either BOM (Cut Piece List) or dimensional. How can we correct this?

If Spool Format is disabled in project settings the makeup length is visible, but we need the length in each individual spool ISO. Therefore, this requires Spool Format.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Where are you adding the Field_Fit? You need to make sure to add it the weld at the connection where the fit is made not on the parts.

Hi Ryan,

Are you able to show a screencast of what your recommending below, so I can see what you are referencing?

Thanks!

Certainly, while holding CTRL select the weld or connector at the to parts:

Hi Ryan,

We are aware that you can change the weld to Field Fit and set up the iso style to the amount of extra pipe needed. The field iso theme adds the additional pipe in the BOM with the “Spool Format” de-selected. The spool iso theme, with the “Spool Format” selected, does not add the additional pipe to the BOM or cut-length BOM, which is what we are looking for. It works for field isos, but not for spool isos.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks,

-Ian

I'll look more into it, at this time i'm leaning toward it being a limitation in the hardcode for Spool Format. Since you can make the isoconfig nearly identical and it doesn't work.

Ryan,

The ISO you generated is a composite, field ISO, spool map, etc.. (whatever you want to call it) and is not a spool format.  Ask the question where is it more important to show makeup length?  On a Spool Map that goes to an on site CM and not necessarily to the fabrication shop for field erection or a Spool ISO that goes to the fabrication shop?  The answer is the spool ISO to the shop with associated BOM.

Yeah i agree. But so far i've not gotten a spool format iso to add the makeup length. Its likely a hardcoded issue with how the engine reads field items. This is something @quentin.contreras and i have looked at extensively without any success. It should be possible and i do agree that it should be standard for the FFW makeup to be visible.

Hi Ryan,

I saw your screen cast but the isometric you generated don't  have END PREP. Can Autodesk resolve this problem?

It's been flagged to the dev team. Its more of a matter of when not if they can fix it. AFAIK the End prep issues are tied to the spool settings and thats where the makeup lengths are not being added.

So when we run to the Out Of the Box 'SPOOL' iso, we see the correct Makeup Length in (3) places.

  • Dimension on the FFW Piece of Pipe
  • Cut List
  • BOM QTY/Length

When an Iso Style is created, we can not get the correct MakeUp Length to appear in the CutList because it is "Hard Coded" into the OOTB Spool Style only?  This can NOT be controlled?

Would a work around be to create anther style using the OOTB SPOOL style as my foundation to inherit the CutList capabilities?

Hey if you are still looking at this, we found a work around to get this resolved.  We could NOT figure out where the 'Length' field was being pulled from in the Plant 3D Class Definitions.  It seems to be a default field that works with Out Of the Box Spool Iso's but comes up short on CutList in other Iso's.

We went in and just created a new class setting for Pipe.

To add this new Class, go to:

  • Project Setup
  • Plant 3D DWG Settings
  • Piping & Equip
  • Pipe Run Component
  • Pipe....

Select ADD

  • Name=Quantity
  • Type=Acquisition
  • Class Properties=
    • Categories_Pipe
    • Properties_Fixed Length

Hit Apply.

Stay within Project Setup, go to Isometric DWG Settings

  • Select preferred Iso Style (spool)
  • Title Block and Display
  • Setup Title Block
  • Table Setup
  • Select Cut Piece List from Table Type
  • Add Column
    • Class=Pipe
    • Property=Quantity
