Does anyone have a P&ID Legend established, using the symbols found in autodesks P&ID software, that they would be willing to share? Just trying to save some time. Instead of having to build one from Scratch, thought I'd throw this out there.
Thanks
Ted

Hi Ted,
If you navigate to this folder or its equivalent: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD %20XX%\PLNT3D\SymbolLibrary - (replace %20XX% with your version)
You will find the documents that the symbols in PID are made from. From an Autodesk perspective it may be easiest to look and build a legend from here. Please note that it would be best NOT to make changes to these files.
Aside from that method, look in the symbol style drawing for whatever standard you are using, i.e. PIP or ISO. The blocks are stored there as well.

Ryan,
The link you sent does not exist with Plant 3D 2017. Any suggestions?
The picture you sent shows you are not in the correct location. If you are using 2017 it should be this:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\PLNT3D\SymbolLibrary
Thanks Ryan,
I was able to put together a 3 page P&ID Legend using the link you sent. I did so using the pipa DWGs.
Get this. After completing this legend, I googled "PIP". Process Industry Practices does not readily pop up. I typed "PIP + Process Piping" to get to the PIP Standards.
On that website, you buy access to the Standards. Appendix B already has legends/lead sheets assembled. Of course access is expensive.
Thanks for your help. I'm new to this forum stuff.

Awesome, i'm glad you were able to compile a good list for your legend based on that info.
The forum are a great place to be new too! There are some very active and very helpful members on here that are quick to respond to new posts.
Hello Ryan,
Do you have any idea is there a way to create(collect) a P&ID legend from the symbols used in a certain P&ID drawing?
That will be very helpful when we want to have a small legend, only with used symbols.
We are working with Plant 3D 2017 and 2018.
Yes but its not that simple.
You could export the P&ID and then do a data extraction on the drawing to list out the blocks. Then copy and paste each block to your legend.
No need to purchase the PIP standards just for the P&ID legend pages. They are in the same directory with others in your PC.
Ryan,
So there's no way to do this automatically? Components have to be saved out as block to manually copy and pasted into a legend?
If not, can you explain how to do a data extraction?
Thanks,
Rapps
There is no way to automatically generate a legend of used symbols. The idea is cool but it's really not feasible. However you can create one manually using the solution above.
IF you wanted to use data extraction, you basically need to export the P&ID's and extract the blocks to a table and then decide how you want the symbols in there. I used to do this - then block insert into the table and have a nice clean table of just what we used. I did have to change the block names to what they were but it was less manual insert and more table work.
I wish there was a cleaner way to do this. Maybe @quentin.contreras or @h_eger know a different way.
@Anonymous, @ryan.bales is correct in that there is no automatic way to generate a legend with symbols used in a P&ID drawing.
There are the standards, but I have seen a lot of users develop their own methods with how they incorporate legends into the P&ID drawing sets. The good thing is once you create the legend you can pretty much use it from project to project without much modification for new items you might need to add or remove.
