A flaw you cannot control at this time: you'll have to wait for Autodesk to fix it.

Accepted solution

If you have a drawing with a dimstyle that you want, you can insert a block from it and, if the dimstyle is part of the block, it will be added to your drawing.

@Thomas_Stuehle

The above "solution" is not a solution as someone being forces to teach AutoCAD via the web app due to COVID restrictions in my school.   The fact that you cannot change dimension precision or style is a MASSIVE oversight.  There is no way I can get and explain to my students remotely how to install a custom block.

I am actively looking to remove AutoDesk products from my school district due to the sheer lack of support I have been receiving of the past years.  This is before covid-19 has made it even worse.

Is there seriously no solution to a problem I found within 5 minutes of using your program?

Hello @schweitzerm

Welcome to the Autodesk Web App Forum.

Thank you for your heads up. You are referring to the topic above. Does this mean, that you are in the same situation or do you have different conditions?

starting a new drawing, with metric and decimal precision = "0", i always get 3 digit precision on the DIM command.
how can i overcome this?

If this is the case, I just tested the following basic steps on my side:

  1. Create a drawing in AutoCAD Desktop.
  2. Enter DIMSTYLE in the AutoCAD command line.
  3. Edit a dimension style or create a new dimension style with your requirements. On my side I tested with precision = 0.
  4. Save the drawing via SAVETOWEBMOBILE.
  5. The drawing can be opened in the AutoCAD Web App.
  6. Enter DIM to create a new dimension.
  7. Open the properties of the created dimension.
  8. Choose the Dim style that you created and that fits to your conditions.

I recommend furthermore:

  • If the students do not have the AutoCAD Desktop App, create the file for them and share it with them.
  • The students can use your drawing as a template and copy it when they need to create a new drawing.
  • If you do not have access to the AutoCAD Desktop App - you might find the functions in a test installation of the AutoCAD Desktop App (which is valid for 30 days).

I am really looking forward hearing from you about this suggestion.

Thanks & Best regards,

Thomas

This "solution" is impossible to implement to a room of teenagers who do not know how to use the software.  What kind of "service" is this?

I don't have AutoCAD desktop, you didn't force me, and I'm not an engineer
It is the most important tool of all
An engineering drawing that has no measurement!? , funny !
Too bad I signed up for a year's plan and lost my money

Since these posts go back 2 years should we assume that Autodesk isn't planning to fix? I can't figure out how set units (feet, inches, etc). Also, if I use the "standard" dimension style the text is too small. I can adjust the size by using any of the "Decimal" styles but they display a comma where the decimal should be. What is causing that?

Your file still needs to be preset for that. in SETTINGS you can only change these

Your file still needs to be preset for that: text STYLEs and DIMSTYLE settings (and options/alternate choices etc.) and more.

Your file still needs to be preset for these many items.

FWIW AutoCADWEB and AutoCADMOBILE are not desktop replacements yet, they remain "adjacent seat" tools, mostly designed to be used for minimal markup/editing and "review". Heavy lifting is still expected to happen on a desktop I believe.

@Thomas_Stuehle  and any other frustrated drafting teacher out there...

In remote and hybrid learning environments, AutoCAD for the Web is a great help.  I'll start by thanking AutoDesk for including access to the web version, as well as the full feature AutoCAD, in their program for schools. The portal for registering a class of students is nearly seamless and it's a pleasure to use the applications for teaching.

With that said, their are shortcomings with working with AutoCAD for the Web. By far the biggest annoyance is that even though precision has been set (to 1 decimal place for example) in the Settings->Units->Precision field, dimensions that are created show 4 places, which causes lots of problems with placing dimensions obviously. The only solution I have for my students is to have them use the Properties->Text Overide field to re-write their dimensions. This is a huge hassle.

So, if there's one thing I'd ask for to be improved upon in AutoCAD for Web, it would be a fix to this problem.

Thanks for a great product, and please continue to support education!

We switched to OnShape which has cloud saves and allows me to edit files with students at the same time and access all of their files without any problems.

Why can't Autodesk simply fix this bug?  This problem is a few years old now!?!

Autodesk does not change anything in the software if not enough people ask for it: do your part to ask/demand over here https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

I see some of these posts are quite old.  I just bought this today, if I cant dimension my drawing properly, it is useless.   Does anyone have a fix for this?

Can you elaborate and be more specific about the issue you are facing please? Everyone can "dimension" in the generic sense of the word all day long in the program

How did you get your dimensions to dimension to two decimal places without overriding the text?

That file was started in desktop AutoCAD with full controls over settings, something the web app totally lacks at the moment.

I did not. I solved this problem by moving to a new web based program.
