XREF and Object Data

Hello All,

How is it possible that obect data that is attached to line features created in a dwg is removed when the name of an xref is changed?

Example:

Streetsegments.dwg - has object data given to the line segments

Parcels.dwg is XREFenced in the Streetsegment dwg

The Parcels name was accidently changed causing the Object data to be removed from the Streetsegments dwg line features.   Object Data is also removed from any other dwg that referenced the Parcels.dwg.

Can anyone explain why this is happening.  Or what the cause may be.

Thanks,

joe

Hi,

tried a sample with Map3D 2014, I used these steps:

a) new drawing

b) draw a line

c) save that drawing as PARCEL.DWG

d) closed PARCEL.DWG

e) created a new drawing

f) created an objectdatatable "STREET", holding two coloums ("ID","NAME")

g) created a polyline

h) attached objectdata to that polyline (as part of od-table "STREET", values: 1,"myStreetName")

j) run command _RENAME and renamed the XRef "PARCEL" to "REN_PARCEL"

k) verified the objectdata content for the polyline ... it's there, no values lost, no od-table lost

So my first question: did I describe exactly the way how it does not work for you?

What Map3D version do you use, what servicepack are you using?

>> Object Data is also removed from any other dwg that referenced the Parcels.dwg

That is something I can't believe, because drawings that are not open can't be modified. Also the drawing PARCEL.DWG does not know how many drawings are using it as XRef (and which drawings that are), so they can't be modified because it's unknown which drawing should be opened/modified/closed.

BTW: what does command _AUDIT report, any errors in the database of the drawing(s)?

At least, is it possible that you are working with objectdatatables with same names in your street-drawing and parcel-drawing? If so, do they have the same name (tablename)?

Hi,

Is it possible that your PARCEL.DWG was corrupt, so open or xref it will crash one or more AcMapXXX.ARX responsible of viewing OD in the properties palettes.

Does other functionnality of Map for managing OD works after opening your file PARCEL?

Hello Alfred,

THanks for taking the time to experiement with this issue.

Your sample seems correct except for the Parcels are a polygon with Obect data attached as well.  The Tables are named differently in all dwgs so there shouldn't be any conflict there.

I will try running the audit to see if there any conflicts/errors.

We are currently using AutoCAD Map 3D 2012.  (upgrading to Map 3D 2013).

will post back with my findings.

Joe

I tested this out with another working drawing with no errors or issues.

After running an Audit no errors were found.  I did find when opening the Streets.dwg there is an error stating a conflict in tables.

see attached for description.....

any suggestions how to corrrect this matter?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

sorry to have not too much time currently, but hopefully this helps: >>>click<<< ... looks like some others have the conflict problem too.

Hi jocartier,

I am just checking to see if you have resolved the issue of the conflict in tables.  Please let me know if you are still looking for assistance with this, and I will be happy to take a look.

Thanks,

Hello

When you mix DWGs in the ACAD MAP Drawing Group with OD (Object Data) :

ALL OD Tables must be exactly defined in the SAME manner !

Exactly the SAME Table Name

Exactly the SAME Field Name with the SAME number of Fields for each OD Table
