Overlaying CAD objects onto GIS Maps

I have a city street blocked out. I am using CAD objects, Lines, circles and hatches to show how they are located on the street(GIS). When I Print they don't show up. In model space and layout space they show. How do I keep the layer, color and text showing when I go to print.

Please explain what you mean by ‘city street blocked out’ and what you are trying to accomplish by ‘overlaying CAD objects onto GIS maps.’ (You may not have to ‘block out’ or overlay anything.)

There could be several reasons why it’s not printing. You need to provide more info. (Better yet, upload screenshots.)

  1. Is your GIS map a raster image? Or vector line work?
  2. A screenshot of modelspace, include both Layer Properties Manager and the Map Task Pane in the screenshot.
  3. The plot window so your settings can be evaluated.
  4. A screenshot of ‘print preview.’
  5. The layout tab with a screenshot of your map visible inside the viewport.

The key to your solution is full disclosure

What I should have said, I have a Captured area of a city street. This is GIS map.

Print preview....zoomed. You can see where I overlaid the objects(rain gardens outlines). They are all grayed out. To hard to see.

I have AutoCAD too. Would I export the Map 3D dwg to AutoCAD and then overlay the rain garden outlines there?

Your post is a little confusing. A GIS map has GIS entities, otherwise known as feature data objects (FDOs). You can tell whether it's a 'GIS' map by looking at the Map Task Pane. The Task Pane will display the GIS objectsIn the image shown below, there are five different point shapefiles and each point has been styled with a symbol.  Examples of other FDO entities that will appear on the Task Pane are DEMs, Geotiffs, SDFs, and aerial images.

BTW, plain vanilla AutoCAD can't recognize shapefiles and won't display a them in modelspace--it doesn't have the Map Task Pane either.

Although you have an image that's capable of being georeferenced it isn't being treated as a GIS-essy type of object since it's not using an FDO connection. The absence of GIS entities and your screenshots indicate your map could've been created by anyone using plain vanilla AutoCAD.

At this point you can try turning off the image layer then zooming-in tight to one of your manholes. Try print preview and see if the manholes show up.
