Number of Features Displayed

I'm working on a county-wide database from shape files, yet when I zoom out, many of the feature labels disappear. Even when I print or export the entities to a CAD file, the labels still don't show. In searching previous posts, someone mentioned changing an item in Windows Registry from 2000 to a larger number with the warning that doing so could slow down my computer some. Like an idiot, I closed out my browser before making note of the process, and now I can't find the post in question.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
