Need to find length of polyline and polygon in meters / feet unit in LL84 Coordinate System DWG file in AutoCAD Map 3D.

Hi, we have imported GPS points into DWG with LL84 Coordinated System and polyline, polygon were drawn by connecting multiple GPS points in DWG. Now we need to know "How to calculate length of polyline and polygons in meters / feet?" In the properties of selected polygon object, length was shown in some fractions of decimal points but no clue about is it right? and its units (meter / feet).  Would helpful if any suggestions.

Hi @geoedge_gis,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
LL84 is a Geographic Coordinate System with degree units. You can get close to what you want by MAPEXPORT'ing out your linework to a Projected Coordinate System with Feet or Meter units. But you still need to consider the effect of Elevation Scale Factor and Grid Scale Factor on the accuracy of your lengths.

Hi @geoedge_gis

Is this your site?

If it is, then start a clean, brand new drawing and do this, so you can see your points and measure distances in meters:

  1. Assign UTM84-43N (EPSG 32643) to modelspace.
  2. When you add your LL84 points the Latitudes are 11's and the Longitudes are 77's. (Note: Latitude=Y and Longitude=X). If your points are csv, xlsx or txt, you can use MAPIMPORT command to add the points. Make sure you set the projection of your input file to LL84 (EPSG 4326).
  3. Turn on Bing Hybrid Map to use aerial imagery as a basemap.

Thank you for valuable suggestion. I tried as you mentioned but no points was plotted in drawing area.  I have attached steps to import screenshot and sample points.csv file. Could you check and correct if i made any mistakes.

Hi @geoedge_gis

Thank you for uploading your csv file.

Do this:

1. MAPCSASSIGN to assign UTM84-43N to modelspace.

2. Use MAPIMPORT to import your csv file. Make your settings like this.

3. Use a crossing window to select ALL points=>go to Properties Palette=>Change Scale-X, -Y and -Z to 200.

4. Turn on Bing imagery to use as a basemap. Verify location of your imported points.
