How to export "create from points" Surface to use in Autocad

Hi,
At one of our bridge decks some water remains on the deck. We let a point cloud be made in autocad and are now trying to see where the deeper points are. Basically like a heat map. In Autocad Mechanical we created a plane to the normal position of the bridge. Now in Autocad map 3D i have created a surface with these provided points. Now i am trying to get that surface into autocad mechanical so i can overlay it with the perfect situation.

How can this be done? Thank you

Kind regards,

Hi @LuukDW

You have only provided 'raw data' and that might not be enough to answer your question.

You need to explain how you plan to use that data when designing the bridge. The more you explain, the better.

  1. Can you upload an example of your previous work using this data method?
  2. What FORMAT can Inventor import? tif? csv? something else?
  3. Can you explain what you mean by perfect situation?

1-Points.1-Points.

2-Heat map.2-Heat map.

Hello @LuukDW

1) +1 with @ChicagoLooper : we need more Infos !

2) From your DWG and the Points, I have used a nice DLL from Gilles (gile) which generate 3DFaces ...

3) Loading the DLL (for ACAD 2013-202X) with the command "NETLOAD" and the Command is "MNT_FACE3D"

4) Please find attached the DWG ... Is it interesting for you ?

Hi, sorry for the delay; I got overrun with different work.

For me, this is the first time I've encountered this type of work. We have one of our rental bridges on-site somewhere. On the bridge deck, water accumulates in puddles. I was given the task of providing insight into how the bridge is positioned, how deformed it is due to its own weight, and if there are any specific low spots due to production mistakes or whatever. I was provided with the raw data and that alone. However, the problem is that I have very limited knowledge of AutoCAD since I am trained in Inventor.

By "perfect situation," I mean the theoretical flatness of the bridge deck. The deck is angled in two directions to let the water flow off the bridge deck. My idea was to create a mesh plane out of all the data points and place a perfectly flat plane at the right angle through it so I can see where it deviates from the flat plane.

The heatmap created comes very close to what I want. However, I think the data points are still on the slope of the bridge, hence the gradual color change along the bridge. If we were to align the UCS with the data points, a more accurate heatmap of the deck would be created, right?

The DWG looks very interesting. However, I am not entirely capable of handling this document. How do you suggest creating a surface or solid from this data?

Thanks for your time and help. Again, Sorry for the delay.

Kind regards,

Hello @LuukDW

Do you want a 3DSolid from my DWG and its 3DFaces ?

Bye, Pat

A solid with the top surface according to the points would be great!

Hello @LuukDW

OK see the NEW DWG with 3DFaces AND a beautiful 3DSolid which has been constructed with a Base Z = 100

Is it OK for you ?

I have always used the BEAUTIFUL DLL from Gilles (gile) and an OTHER Command "MNT_SOLID3D"

which constructs a 3DSolid instead of N 3DFaces !

Bye, Pat
