I work at an engineering firm where AutoCAD is everywhere. As a GIS person at first it was a bit intimidating, but I've been able to pick up on Map3D's tutorials very quickly.

Do any of you GIS-er's actually do substantial GIS work in AutoCAD Map3D? If so, what would you say it's proven most useful for compared to ArcGIS or othe GIS software?

Yes, Map was created as a GIS application. I use both of them often, and together.

I use both ArcGIS and Map to maintain the GIS. I often use the "ArcGIS for AutoCAD" add-on to enable ArcGIS Online and Enterprise data to be brought into Map. I find it easier to create/edit features in Map. I use ArcGIS to edit/analyze attribute data and for creating presentation maps.

The newer versions of Map have event more ArcGIS interaction capabilities.
