Disable Auto-Look at text when typing?

Is there any way autocad will let me type into an MTEXT box without snapping my camera to it? A large part of my workflow is typing callouts for construction to follow into a layout page that also includes a viewport. The text boxes are in a different part of the page from the viewport and in order to type the callouts I need to look at the viewport to see what I'm describing. The problem is that autocad snaps the camera to the text box if it isn't in your view when you're typing, so I can't type and zoom into what I need to see at the same time.

Hi @billydunbar2000

Sorry, but your explanation is vague. Please explain to clear up the confusion.

  1. Are you placing your mtext on paperspace (on a layout tab) or in modelspace?
  2. Does your field of vision automatically zoom-in to your cursor when entering your mtext?
  3. Do you want to be zoomed-out when entering mtext such that you have a wide field of vision?

I hope this clarifies my issue

1. Paperspace, but this behavior is conserved through all of autocad
2. The field of vision automatically zooms to fit the mtext box when entering text
3. I want to be zoomed in to a part of the page that does not contain my mtext box. Currently if i want to see the viewport while typing, I must zoom out see both my text and the viewport.

Are you using an old version of AutoCad?

What is your MTEXTFIXED value?

Have you tried changing the value?

This value is new to me, so thanks for sharing it. Sadly, it doesn't help me here. It does not allow me to type in an mtext that isn't in my view. Also I am using the 2020 version of AutoCAD Map 3D

Hi William,
Use Notepad++ to type your callouts, then Copy/Paste into MTEXT.
