AutoCAD map shapefile help

I've never used AutoCAD Map before, my only experience is a couple entry level classes with ESRI software. I need to import a map into autoCAD and have been sent shapefiles along with .cpg, .dbf, .idx, .prj, and .shx files. It's my understanding that the shapefiles pull information from the other files to build the complete map. I have put them all in the same folder and then imported the shapefiles but it just becomes a completely black version of the map. One shapefile is supposed to be all the labeling on the map but is just black dots when imported https://xender.vip/.

.shp and other FDO (feature data objects) file types are not "imported" in M3D.  The files are "connected" using the Data Connect window avaiable at the top left of the TASK PANE.

Before connecting to data the coordinate system of the .prj file in the .shp set should be set.  command is MAPCSASSIGN.  search for the CS and select the one needed.

the .shp can be dragged and dropped into the map work space also.

as for your particular data, ZIP the files and post the data in the attachements window below the reply to message window and post specific questions about the data, how you need to display the data, etc.

as for the .shp that imports black dots, it is probably point data which can be styled to show labels, different symbols for ranges of data, and a bunch of other things.   In M3D help look at the Styling category for more information.

Post back with the data and particular questions for more help.

Also, YouTube has many how to videos about using M3D.

Hi @qunasfoma39

Thank you for using the forum.

Would it be possible to keep your upload simple by not using a third party app?

Do this:

  1. Select by highlighting all files you want to upload, for example, shp, shx, prj, dbf, etc., etc. then right-click
  2. From the shortcut menu select Send to=>Compressed (zipped) folder

3. The selected files will be placed in a zipped folder. Then drag the zipped folder as shown below.
