AUTOCAD MAP 3D STYLE EDITOR

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way to save styles in the style editor in AutoCAD Map 3D and when I bring in new data it could be applied to it? For example, I would like all of my proposed poles to come in red and my existing poles to come in orange. Do I have to go into the style editor each time I have a new project and assign colors?

Thanks,

right click the layer in Display Manager and select save a layer.  creates a .layer file which holds that data.

I understand how to save the .layer data but when I go to load that layer in a new drawing the points from the previous project come in. I would just like the styles to come in to my new data set (color, feature label, etc..) not the points that were associated with it.

Hi,

that is very simple to solve.

  1. Use the dataconnection and interupt it.
  2. Now you can edit the filepath to the new source path
  3. Connect it again without adding to the card

Now you have the old style with the new data. But be carefull, all used properties for teh style have also to be in the new source.

Sorry just one more question! In Autocad Map (IM_ElectricNA.dwt) the layers are selectable.

However, in the layers I'm trying to create, you are unable to select individual entities. For instance, if i want everything off except Proposed Poles. I'm relatively new to the AutoCad map 3d world. Especially Map task pane/layers/ etc... I want to use one data table and be able to have different layers for specific properties.

Style the layer.   Thematic Rule min & Max to the same value , individual values, set the marker style, apply and close

or

from the data connect, connect to the data, add to map with query, (below schema box in data connect window) select the property drop down & Proposed Poles, OK,  and then only Proposed Poles will be in the data layer awaiting styling for display

I tried your suggestion and was unable to have each layer selectable. Will I have to add the .sdf file and add to map with query each time i want a new selectable layer?

Yes.  Maintain multiple layers from the same source file each with a different query and save the .layer files for each display selection to use in future maps.  Turn the layers off or on as you need in a current map.

and now that you grasp that

do this

mapimport the data set and set the Drawing Layer <by Data> as in the MI tif.  This puts objects onto layers by your choice of  object data.

Mapexport the resulting dwg objects and set the feature tab as in the ME tif.  Note that Defpoints layer is unselected. the example is for pipes with the classes by operating pressure.  Geometry is set to lines for the pipes as linear objects.  phone poles, hydrants, sign posts would be points, buildings, lots polygons, etc.

the resulting sdf or shp or other gis file type you chose will then give a map with the layer control as in the pipemap tif    50 is unselected and those pipes do not show.
