zoom funtion during a command

Anonymous
Not applicable

With AutoCAD LT 2022 when I try any command (e.g. draw a line from one point to another) and click on the zoom icon after I've initiated the command so that I can get a closer view of where the line is intended to go, the cursor freezes and locks up.  I have to hit the escape button to terminate the command and get back to an unfrozen mode.  I've never had this issue in any previous version for many years.

Instead of clicking on whatever zoom "icon" you're clicking on, try typing in 'zoom (note the leading apostrophe ).

This bypasses the icon and test the transparent zoom command itself.

Note that the middle mouse wheel also acts as a transparent zoom control.

Thanks for the quick reply. However, that still freezes my mouse in the
program, and I have to hit escape. I did try to initiate a command like
drawing a line, then typed 'zoom, then had to select if I wanted a window,
etc. It froze at that point period.

This is not a forum for "architects", this is a forum for a unique variant of AutoCAD called ARCHITECTURE.

Do you not have a mouse with a scrollwheel?
Or stuck on a laptop with a touchpad today?
Are you on MacOS or WinOS? Which number version?

>>>... I've never had this issue in any previous version ...<<<
That means nothing if you upgraded: once you answer the above questions there might be other things to try.

I've been running Windows 10 on my desktop computer. I do have a mouse
with a scroll button, and that button will zoom once I initiate the command
to draw a line (or whatever). But I've never had, or wanted, to rely on
that in any previous version because it only zooms within that initial
window. Previously clicking on the zoom icon would, by default, allow me
to "pick first corner" of window and zoom in to an area on the far right or
left of where I'm at, for example. Anyway, I've been working with AutoCAD
LT since their 1998 version and never had anything like this with the mouse
and program freezing when I click on the zoom icon after initiating a
command. And like I mentioned in the previous email with your suggestion,
typing 'zoom and then trying to follow with those next prompts had the same
result. And I certainly don't want to have to type in something like that,
or continue on with a couple more selections, before I can even draw a
simple line to a particular point. It just doesn't make sense to lose that
basic, critical (at least to me) software command.

Anway, I've been working with AutoCAD LT 2021 because the 2022 version is
unfortunately useless to me at this point.

We'll get your post moved to the LT forum where this post belongs.

In the meantime in LT2022 Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart the program: reverting to DirectX11 fixes the problem for most users with shaky video card setups. If not, start GRAPHICSCONFIG command then turn off hardware acceleration.

If that does not help, start a support ticket with Autodesk at your account page here (click on the ? icon to get started) https://manage.autodesk.com/home/

I tried both of those steps with no effect on my problem at all. Just out
of curiosity I typed in the GFXDX12 command in my LT2021 version to see
what that variable was set at (it was initially set at "1" in the 2022
version). The command line gave me an "unknown command" response.

Anyhow, back to where I started--using LT2021 and on the verge of dumping
2022 in the trash.

Why would LT2021 do anything else? Directx12 Graphics Requirements are new to LT2022.

Start a support ticket with Autodesk at your account page here (click on the ? icon to get started) if you need other options to try https://manage.autodesk.com/home/
Going back to LT2021 is a good option for now, but LT2023 and newer are not likely to roll back to LT2021's older graphics so at some point you'll need to fix the issue.

Good luck.

I have a brand new computer as of last July. Why is AutoCAD putting in
discrete software programming to make it virtually impossible to do regular
work? What the heck is Directx12 Graphics, and why isn't it compatible
with Windows 10, or anything else an unsuspecting normal(?) computer user
might expect when paying for this software? I have a quality graphics card
as is and certainly wouldn't expect to have to pay for a special card and
installation on top of the software's pricing.

No idea. LT2022.0.1 (the last update) works fine in our office in Win10Pro Laptops/PCs that are anywhere from 1-month to 4+years old in a WinServer environment, we've got it set up for 6-users so far for fulltime use and at some point this summer we are likely to expand to the entire office: I don't know your PC specs or setup so I cannot comment on why you may be having issues. If Autodesk Support (as noted twice above) are unable to assist, hire an IT person to help diagnose issues you may be facing if your manufacturer does not offer tech support.

Note: I'm not with Autodesk, neither is anyone else answering posts around here; we are all end users just like you with day jobs that choose to help fellow end users in our spare time.

If you want to give Autodesk your feedback, that is done way over there on another page https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

Thanks anyway. I posted the issue as you had suggested and just got back
an answer right away with a direct link to a fix that Autodesk apparently
needed to do with this sort of problem. I installed the update through
that link, and the program seems to be working now.

Glad you got it fixed @Anonymous

To clarify, I wasn't suggesting that typing in 'zoom and choosing an option was a long term solution. But it bypassed whatever you were clicking to initiate the command, and therefore took that out of the equation. It was just a test.

Cheers

(P.S. Do you mind posting the link to the fix, so that if other people in the future have the same problem and they find this thread, they can access the fix also? Thanks)

It depends if you read it that way or not: I write in a factual manner, PLUS I could not possibly have managed or controlled your anticipated reading mood today from 2+years ago.

Your reply confirmed your intent. Ignorance is bliss, but your arrogance is not. Best of luck!
