Updating Data links without closing excel

I'm currently trying to set up an excel data link in AutoCAD LT. I have the files linked and can change cells in each. Ideally, I want to be able to edit the excel sheet and have it update in AutoCAD . When make a change and save the excel file and try to update the link in AutoCAD , it tells me someone is currently in the file and can't update it. This process does work only if I close excel. Is there a way around this?

UPDATE: I should've mentioned this excel file is within a synced folder from SharePoint. I tried saving the file locally to my computer and I can now update AutoCAD without closing excel. Is there still a way to do this without having to save the file locally?

That's your problem I believe, and Autodesk to date hasn't done much for good SharePoint interoperability yet. Maybe next version or 3 or 10.
