Unable to publish multiple layouts

Not applicable

Hello!

Ill just preface this post by saying that I amfrom the IT Department, and have not used AutoCAD other than general installations and diagnostics.

The machine is using AutoCAD 2011 LT (with a CADSTA installation that, from memory, gives it the AutoCAD 2011 full functions). Windows 7 x64, 16GB RAM, i7 processor.

One of our users left a ticket on our helpdesk stating that they are unable to print multiple layouts. I spoke to them last week about the issue and got them to run me through step by step of what they are doing.

The user is away today and i cannot remember exactly what each step involves but my best guess is the following;

Their process is as follows:

  1. Shift select all the layouts (4 for the file he was showing me).
  2. Right click and publish layouts
  3. The page setup has been set to the main office printer, using A3 and Black / White.
  4. Publish the layouts.

Once this has been done, Autocad idles for a few seconds - some times up to a minute, before opening a blank document and not even sending anything to the printer.

This has me baffled and its twice as difficult to diagnose when the user doesn't return phone calls (and is in a building 1 hour's drive away).

Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Can you do the following

Get them to do the steps up to when the publish dialog box comes up.

1. What does it say in the PUBLISH TO area. Make sure that is set to PLOTTER NAMED IN PAGESETUP.

2. What is the printer that the PAGESETUP is set to? Is it the office printer or somwhere else?

3. Is the printer installed correctly on their machine?

These are just a few questions you can ask.

Hi hwalker,

Thanks for your suggestions. Ive spoken with the affected user and have confirmed all the settings are correct. We tried reinstalling the printer on his computer but its still not working.

The user noted that he is able to publish a layout by itself, but as soon as he selects more than one it stops working.

Can you get your user to take screenshots of when it is working and when it is not working and post them both here, so we can have a look.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply - I have been away on holidays.

I have attached 2 screenshots, one of the Single layout setup, and another of the Multiple layout setup.

Regards

The first thing you should do is create a page setup for use with the publish command. (command PAGESETUP)

This setup can be used for all layouts in the drawing, and can be imported to other drawings if the printing properties you use stay the same.

Save the page setup with all the properties you require (as per your single layout screen grab)

when you enter publish, select all the layouts you need (you can add more from other folders if necessary). Then, under page setups select the page setup you just created (make sure that plotter named in page setup is ticked and that all the layouts show the same page setup to the right)

I think that should be it, let me know if that works.

I would untick the "Publish in background" option.

You do not need to create page setups as long as your tabs use exactly the same information e.g Were they copied from a template file?
