I have just started with a new company and keep having problems when trying to hatch around blocks. The hatch ignores the block and goes right over it.
Can this be fixed by a simple setting? I really don't want to have to explode the hatch if I don't have to!
Any suggestions much appreciated!
Are you by chance not using the core commands of HATCH and BHATCH? Or not
noticing the changes you make? Or not have closed entities you are trying to
hatch around?
Help explains two ways to set the core commands for the desired hatch
behavior, which one have you done so far?
.BHATCH command>Advanced Tab>Set Island detection.
.HATCH command>Hatch name followed by hatch style code, like Solid,n or
Solid,o or Solid,i for example.

The problem is not in the hatch command. This is a problem I have never had before and think it may be a setting somewhere on the computer or in the existing drawing. I have come accross alot of other strange settings on the system in this new job which is why I think this is the problem
I am going thru the normal HATCH procedure by clcking the hatch icon. I have tried all variations in the hatch box (removing islands, making it non-associative, hatching to outside etc etc etc) and nothing makes any difference and it is all on one plane. I have also tried cutting the area into smaller parts and hatching them individually, and zooming in as close as I can around the hatch area. I have only come accross it in this one drawing which was started by someone else and it's driving me nuts!!!!
Check to see if there is something within your island that is extending beyond the island into the area being hatched. I had this problem when I had text inside the island, the text box stuck out into the hatched area even though the text didn't. This caused my islands to get hatching as well.
Not sure if that's your problem or not, but worth checking out.
Still not the answer! I am trying to hatch flooring around a chair (which is a block and hasn't caused problems elsewhere) and a table (just an ordianry polyline rectangle. Both objects keep getting hatchedas well as the floor.
Here is were you have to do more to help yourself: post a sample of this
file, along with the chair and table and area you are trying to hatch, for
someone here to get their hands on. It's beyond the "throw answer at you"
stage.

are there multiple lines in the block, on top of each other. Autocad has bad problems hatching to boundaries of multiple lines especially if they are different lengths on top of each other. If this is true then Autocad ignores the boundary or gets very creative with the extent of the boundary. So then clean up your Blocks and redefine. Hope this helps
Just move your hatch boundary out of its position so it is all by itself and hatch it then move it back. takes less time, or you can polyline around the chair/table and then freeze there layer and hatch like normal.
Just another good old cad problem that they won't fix.
I am trying to hatch wall tiles in a bathroom with the block of a toilet. I have done it in all other drawings with the exact same blocks, but only in this drawings which was started by someone else does it not work, it will not recognise the blocks, I agree it must be some system variable. Did you end up finding out what the problem was?
