Polyline undo resets width to zero during command

Hi.

I have been using AutoCAD for more years than I care to remember, and in the latest version (2022 LT) polylines have changed slightly, and I can't seem to find any help on it anywhere, so thought here was a good place to ask for help.

Simply put, if I draw with a polyline with thickness, and I need to undo the last section of polyline within the command, the width resets to zero so that if I carry on drawing my polyline, it is very thin. I can make it thick again, by simply typing w, return and new width. However, if I am tracing something complicated, I end up having to undo quite a lot. Does anyone know of a sysvar that lets me turn the 'reset to zero width' function off?

It does get infuriating after a while. Previous to 2022 LT, if you used undo or ctrl-Z, it would undo, but stay at the set width.

Would setting PLINEWID to the required width before starting the polyline command help your situation?

Hi @julian,

I am sorry to hear this is occurring for you. I tried this in AutoCAD and LT 2022, but have not been able to reproduce the issue described.

Can you verify that you have the latest update for AutoCAD LT 2022 installed from the ABOUT command in AutoCAD? Currently the latest is 2022.1.1. If not, it can be downloaded from your Autodesk Account under Product updates.

If that does not help, I may be missing something in my testing. Can you detail the step by step and provide a sample file with the linework (showing before and after the thickness reverts) in it?

@cheryl.buck  I have version 2022.1.1 and can confirm the behaviour (in LT2022, I don't have older versions installed to test).

Start the pline command, enter a starting point at the prompt and then type 'w' to set a width for the polyline you are then prompted to set a start and ending width for the polyline the ending width remains active for all ongoing segments, until you enter a ctrl+z to undo the last segment which also causes the polyline width to revert back to 0 for further sections.

Confirm,

it isn't the case in 2020.1.4, but i n2021.1.1

if somebody like to test it in 2021.0.0 - 2021.1.0 we will know when it started.

Hi Steven.

The PLINEWID command does work, but only at the width you set within that command. So you have to use that, rather than the PL/W command for width. So basically, you have to set every polylines width with that separate command every time you do a new poly line f different width. I was hoping that I just needed to change a sysvar.....

Thanks for your help.

Hi Cheryl.

I have since updated to the latest file, and the same thing is happening.

Literally, if i assign a width to a polyline and then use the undo command, new sections of the same polyline drawn come out at zero width. So the main body of polyline is the desired width, and the new part of the same polyline is at zero width. It basically splits the global width at the point of undo. I can give it a new global width afterwards, but as drawn, the same polyline has different width sections, if I dont reassign width for the new sections.

Hi @julian,

I am sorry to hear the updates did not resolve the issue. Since we are not able to reproduce the issue, it is possible the user settings or install are damaged.

I am sure you can reproduce it,

my 2021 and 2022 is stock..

Pline

Set  set start and end width to 2, draw 1 2 3 vertex, and use undo to set a new 3rd vertex.

Is it stil width 2 ?

EDIT

copy paste it into your commandline in Autocad newer than 2020.1.4 version

Hi @julian and @cadffm,

Thank you again for all the help, I was able to reproduce the issue in 2021.0 and above based on the step by step.

I encourage you to report this to the Product Feedback team for investigation. It would be helpful to include a link to this thread for reference.

Thanks Cheryl. Tried that, but the feedback form fails when I press 'submit'. Typical! 🙂
It says 'cannot process your request at this time'. Doh!

You appear to have marked this as the solution, but your response doesn't actually provide any solution at all, other than 'report this to the Product Feedback team', which I tried to, that failed, and I told you that it failed. I'm not sure that solves this.

1. Adesk Feedback - must be a problem with your browser settings or firewall or similar

   I did it for you.

2. Your Thread/Post - "your question" is solved = Is completely answered

You will not get any other answer that will help you, no one can change that except the manufacturer,

whether and when this will happen will not be announced in the forum.

I understand you and I also find the "name" Solution chosen very badly,
but personally I translate it for myself as "answered and solved if possible",
I can live with that.
The fact that AutoDESK does not want to change the name for the hook has been discussed many times.
