missing the bottom of my drawing

missing the bottom of my drawing

The other day I started missing the bottom of my drawing.  If I run full screen I can't see most of the bottom half unless I highlight it.  A few symbols show through but not the whole drawing.  If I use the left half of my monitor less is cut off.  If I shrink the window so the bottom part of my monitor is not used, I see the whole drawing.  It's hard to describe so I took a screen shot.  This is using the left half of my display with a simple circle drawn to show you what is missing.

Hello coreysimmons and welcome to the Forums!

That is really odd, and I apologize for the issue that you are having. I will try to assist you in fixing this.

Can you please do a couple of things for me? Tell me:

1. What version of AutoCAD you are running.

2. What your video card and driver version are.

3. What your OS is.

Also, can you post the circle drawing for testing purposes?

Based solely on your posted picture, your program window is not maximized. You're in a floating program window.

The circle drawing was just something I whipped up to show the problem.  I've attached a different file with the same problem except that it has more lines, text, and symbols.  You can see at the bottom how some symbols and text show but others do not.  I've hovered over a missing portion of an arc to show that it will be seen when highlighted.

I'm running AutoCAD LT 2017 on a Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 64 bit.  The tablet is in a dock using a StarTech MSTMDP123DP  mini-displayport to 3 display port adapter.  It doesn't appear to have updateable drivers.  The display adapter is Intel Iris Graphics 540 with driver 20.19.15.4409.  It's hooked to two external monitors with the tablet screen disabled.  The monitor with the drawing on it is a Dell U2713HM with driver 2.0.0.0.  When I undock the tablet, everything works fine on the built-in display.  When I redock it, it appears fine for a second and then I lose the bottom of the screen again.  If I drag the window to the other display, everything is fine.  It's a Dell 1909W with driver 1.0.0.0.

Thanks,

Corey

Your external monitor is running at a lower resolution that it should be running: hence the cut-off.

Dean might be right, and you should experiment with different resolutions to see if you can get something to work.

I went to the Dell website to see if there was a better driver for that unit and I found this:

Supported Operating Systems

Your Dell U2713HM supports these operating systems:

Windows 8, 64-bit

Windows 7, 32-bit

Windows 8.1, 64-bit

Windows Vista, 64-bit

Windows 8, 32-bit

Windows 8.1, 32-bit

Windows Vista, 32-bit

Windows 7, 64-bit

Windows 10 does not appear to be supported for that particular monitor; you might want to try some of the other drivers (from other OSs) to see if they will get past the issue.

Sorry, I've been busy on other projects and haven't gotten back to this for a while.  The problem is still there.  The display is set to the native resolution.  I found this online about a driver for the display http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN298567?dgc=SM&cid=266889&lid=5129275&c=us&l=en&s=bsd...

Everything worked fine with my Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 running AutoCAD LT 2016.  The Pro 3 had a hardware issue and was replaced with the Pro 4 and I installed AutoCAD LT 2017 at that time.  That's when the problem started.  I could try rolling back to 2016.

One reply noted that that your external monitor's resolution is not capable of doing what you want. FWIW This appears to be is a problem between your SurfacePro and the monitor and possibly Windows: there is nothing in AutoCAD that will fix it if your external display resolution is not 100% identical to the Surface Pro's screen display (2736x1824 at 267 PPI,).

There is nothing inside AutoCAD to fix it sadly. Chat with Microsoft about external monitor display resolutions settings and see if it can be bumped up significantly until the bottom of the AutoCAD program window becomes visible again.

Good luck.

Dean might be right (he usually is).

Just so we can say we have tried everything:

1. Have you already tried switching the two monitors to each other's ports to make sure there isn't a defective wire/port somewhere?

2. Have you tried a different port adapter instead of your 3 display port adapter to see if that makes a difference? Maybe one a friend has?

3. Did you try the 8.0/8.1 inf file mentioned in the Dell article?

That's all I can think of currently.

I haven't had time to work on it but today when I opened the software everything was fine.  I got a notification that a system variable had changed but I didn't change anything.  I clicked on the window and it says that MIRRTEXT is set to 1 and the preferred setting is 0.  I'm not sure what changed.  I might have been hit by the WUS server over the weekend and I forgot about it.  At any rate, it's working now so I'm not going to mess with it.

Thanks,

Corey

I am having this same issue with my Surface Pro 4 and 2017 Mechanical.  It is not truly cutting of the bottom.  The bottom is still there and selectable, it is just not displaying all of it.  Everything worked fine for the first few weeks between the SP4, 2017 Mechanical and monitor.  It just started this issue a couple days ago.

I don't believe the screen resolution is the only issue.  If it was, then setting the Surface pro 4 resolution to match the resolution of the external monitor should correct the issue.  I just tried it and it does not fix the issue.  There are several lower resolutions on the external monitor however where everything is fine and some where it is still messed up.  I think resolution plays into it, but it is something to do with Autocad as well.  Don't have this issue with any other software package.

My problem was exactly like you described. I don't know how it got fixed, it just started working one day. Just a couple of days ago it came back but went away with a reboot. The work around I used was shrinking my window. If displayed more of the drawing area when the window was smaller. My monitor is big enough that I was able to cope until it started working again.

Try turning off graphics hardware acceleration.  That worked for me, but I'm still trying to get it to run properly with accel on.  I noticed it wasn't using my discrete graphics card (NVIDIA Quadro M4000M on a Dell Precision 7710) in the accel settings, rather the onboard Intel P530.  I'll update with any progress.

Changing the preferred processor in the NVIDIA control panel by adding the AutoCad application as a profile did it. Back to "normal".

This solution worked for me.  I tried leaving on hardware acceleration and uncheacking other individual things.  It is actually the High Quality Geometry box that I deselected and it cleared the issue perfectly.

i have exactly the same problem, i'm on a surface pro 4 as well but using a HP monitor. Do you have any idea how you fixed it??

It only reoccurs very rarely and it seems to have something to do with using AutoCAD undocked and then docking it.  I turned off hardware acceleration and it hasn't happened again but it was so intermittent that I can't say that's for sure what fixed it.  For all I know it'll happen again soon.

I have a AutoCAD 2017 as well and I have the exact same problem. The bottom part of my screen is not clear and only some items will show. I got a larger monitor so at least the top part becomes more useful:(

I did change the MIRRTEXT variable to 1 just in case based upon your experience and nothing happened. Strange problem.
