litype deletion/AutoCADLT2012

Hello, I looked at a way of purging linetypes in a drawing, but it doesnt work for me. In a studio I work for, we have tons and tons of linetypes (probably imported from somewhere) that keep repeating (you can even see some of them being repeated in the photo #1, mind the scroll wheel on the right side, there are realy hundreds if not thousands of them) and for some reason I cant find a way to get rid of them. Even though I dont think, they re used in any object in the drawing or any layer, they dont show up in the purge window (photo #2). Is there a way to get rid of them? It makes work with these files cumbresome and the filesizes are bigger than they have to be because of it.

@a.apeticky  Your screenshot is from an old LT version of AutoCAD:

1) This is not the LT forum. Which software are you using? Exact variant and year version, if you are unsure start ABOUT command in your program and share that screenshot here.

2) New LT/AutoCAD versions have a feature added to PURGE that can confirm if something is in use, like this (and notice how it explains why it may not be purgeable)

Im using autocad lt 2012. The feature does work, it tells me, that the linetypes are used in the drawing. The problem si  though, its telling me its used even when the drawing is empty of all objects. Or at least I would say its empty. I made sure that all layers are visible, not frozen and unlocked, I selected all the objects by ctrl + A and deleted them. either there is a problem with this exact process and there still are some objects that im unaware of or the feature is realy telling me, there are some objects that actualy arent there.

They can be assigned to Layers.  If that is the cause, Purge all unused Layers, and then you can Purge the linetypes assigned to them.

Hi, DGN linetypes? are "used" because they are linked to invisible data.

In LT 2012, use command WBLOCK entire drawing to create a new .dwg

Linetypes which are not needed, will not export to the new file.

I tried both, deleting the layers and then trying to purge the linetypes which didnt work (there arent even that many layers to choose from, so that every linetype could be assigned to some layer) but I even used the wblock command you suggested and it migrated to the new drawing. The only time it worked wad when i first deleted all the objects in hte drawing and then wblocked the whole drawing (because there werent any objects to choose 😄 that was the only time the linetypes werent in the new drawing but whenever i left objects in, they migrated into hte new drawing). Im attaching one of these drawings.

i tried, and it didnt work, there arent even that many layers to choose from. every layer would have to have maybe even tens of linetypes assigned to them.

I did the following using full AutoCAD 2024:

Detached All Xrefs (even though they're unreferenced)

Ran the Purge command which took a long time even for the initial window to appear because there were so many orphaned DGN linetype data

I made sure the check Orphaned data and did an initial purge.

I then saved, closed & reopened the drawing.

Then I was able to delete the additional layer and all the filters.

I executed the Purge command a few more times and now all the linetypes are gone

you can't follow Pauls way (in 2012, it wasn't an option)

and for the Adesk-fix for DGN-Ltypes (DGNPURGE), you need full AutoCAD 2012 - not LT)

But If you follow my hint, you will also get rid of them, at least in your test file.

And also without the dgnfix, or thePurge option from 2015 or newer and without my workaround,

your Purge should be able to purge all linetypes, except some.

You have to run Purge multiple times!

and if you want to "purge" all of them from your sample file, use wblock, entire drawing

Work with the new created file, without these linetyps.

I guess it works now. When I tried it the first time to Wblock the drawing, it didnt work for some reason as i said in some previous comment. I tried it again and this time it did it.
