Line Length Input Values

Hi,

Brand new to CAD but after a few hours searching with no luck, I thought I'd post:

I am looking for a way to customise the input values, in particular when drawing a simple line. I work with A3 drawings at 1:100 and basically what I am looking (hoping) for is to be able to input "6000" to create a line 6m long (6cm on the page).

Any assistance appreciated.

Welcome to the Forums

Here are a few ways

Press F8 to switch on Orthogonal mode. Start your line move in the direction you want to go and type 6000. You will have a line 6m long

Start your line at 0,0, then type 6000,0 or 0,6000 you will have a line 6m long horizontally or vertically

Start your line anywhere and type @Anonymous,0 or @0,6000 your line will be 6m long horizontally or vertically from your starting point

Start your line anywhere then type <25 this will "fix" the line angle to 25 degrees, then type 6000

You draw at 1:1 scale in CAD: drawing at 1:100 is for paper drafting only.

Is that perhaps the real issue?

A couple of other points to add to the ones above. Make sure you use the "acadltiso.dwt" template when you start a new drawing, as this is already setup to use mm, alternatively use the -dwgunits command to make sure you have millimeters set as your unit of measurement. You should be doing any drawing in model space, where you can draw a line of 6000 units, when it comes to plotting onto an A3 sheet you should then go to one of the layouts and set that up to use A3 paper, or use an existing layout if you have one available, it is on this sheet within a paperspace viewport that you can apply a scale of 1:100 and get your line to plot at 6cm long.
