Here are 3 ways to insert raster images in AutoCAD:
1. Real image attachment as a native AutoCAD object.
With the Image Manager dialog. Just like X-ref attachment.
2. Windows OLE, read all about it in Dean's post.
This will not insert the image as an AutoCAD object.
You can't move it with AutoCAD commands or change properties e.t.c.
2. 3rd party solutions like TracTrix, RxAutoImage and Cadraster.
This was the most common solution before the Image Manager was introduced.
(R14?)
This Image Manager have always been limited in LT.
There are ways around that:
a. Use a drawaning with an image already attached in full version of
AutoCAD.
Then change the path to another image in the Image Manager dialog.
b. Use shortcut key (ALT+A) to activate the poorly hidden Attach button
in the Image Manager's dialog. This "feature" was finaly terminated in LT
2004.
To get Image attachement to work in LT you'll ned a 3rd party product.
It's considered bad manners to mention such products here.
After all, Autodesk are our hosts, and moderates this news server.

> Conny, can you please clarify for me; you say "No such luck" to "inserting
jpeg images to LT2004". But there's a thread from Aug11 ("Raster Images") in
this forum, where Dean seems to be confirming that insertion of raster
images in LT2004 is (or should be) routine! This is important to me right
now. I'm still using LT98. Had an application TracTrix 2000 that was a
raster-to-vector conversion app., that (you may not believe this of LT98
cause it seems to be contrary to the "party line") let me insert rasters
into LT98! I couldnt manipulate much - only move, scale, rotate, erase, and
they were only ever on the 0 layer no matter which layer was current, but I
could reference them, & then eg, trace them in 98. This was ALL the cadd
function & power I ever needed. But had to reload windows, & now the TT2000
app. is not working with LT98. So, (hope u r still with me) need to consider
purchase of new cadd, and want to get the minimum that can do this. I'll
greatly appreciate any answer you might give. Thanks.
