I can't wblock this drawing

I have tried everything I know and this drawing won't wblock. Any help would be appreciated.

• If you could please provide us with your computer specs? Windows release? graphics card? 
• Have you had this issue before or is this new? 
• Does this apply to all drawing files?

I believe it's 2012LT. No I have not had this issue in the past with
wblock. This file had several references missing and some of the blocks I
can't explode. I just need a dwg of what this file currently shows but it's
proving difficult.

-PURGE command (notice the dash) needs to be run on this file, as it contains many things you don't need:
Registry Applications Purged : 5304
Annotation Scales Purged : 16
Blocks Purged : 57
Layers Purged : 380
Plot Style Purged : 7
Dimension Style Purged : 11
Materials Purged : 10

You also probably needed to detach all the unreferenced XREFs too?

The file also contains content from a vertical version and at least the AUTOTURN add-on.

It also appears the file was opened last in an AutoCAD version a lot newer than LT2012: the person that sent you the file needed to use AECTOACAD (or the 'save to autocad' feature if they used a vertical version of autocad) before sending you the file. You and them need to be talking in more detail, instead of you sharing potentially sensitive project files in public forums like these except as a last resort.

Thanks for your help. I don't  use Autocad often so some of these things are new to me. I want to go back and run through your process. When you run this purge command did you just pick ALL? Or how did you decide what to purge?

That vertical version was annoying too. How did you see that was there and how did you get rid of it?

Typically I get these files from the customer who gets them from theh architect so I don't have much control over what I get. I'm sure this could be seen as sensitive but I stripped a lot of the detail out. Thanks again

So -PURGE command (you type it, with the dash as part of the name) requires you to specifically select the suboptions for RegApps and the others since "all" fails to do it (even though you'd think it should).

I suggest you and your client and your architect coordinate how best they can send you the files in a form you can fully use: in the long run it's best for you and hopefully your client will benefit as well. They, the file creators, are the ones that need to "fix" the files as LT2012 is not able to do so.

When I work in other drawings I normally use the following steps to clean up the file before I add any new edits to the project. This is just a process I use, this may be helpful since you are not the original creator of the files and multiple drafters may need to make edits to the same project. 

1. Run RECOVERALL, at the command line and select drawing, save drawing and close.
2. Run RECOVER, at the command line and select drawing.
3. (-)PURGE > Regapps > Enter>No
4. (-)PURGE>ALL> Enter>No
5. AUDIT> Yes
6. PURGE > Select Purge nested items> Select Automatically purge orphaned data > Purge All
7. CTRL+A > OVERKILL
8. Close and Save newly purged file (ex. CLEANED_file)

9. Apply workflow.

I also hyperlinked the commands so that you can read in further detail of each one. Like dean had mentioned the "-" is intentional and necessary. I would run through Deans steps as well as the ones above.

Hi,

just to be careful: _OVERKILL does not help anything with defects in the database. But running the command modifies your geometry by deleting objects you might need in your structure!

For me this is one of the most dangerous commands and should only to be used if you really know what does with your structured drawing.

I actually got the wblock to work using some of the suggestions here. The problem I now face is probably out of scope in this forum. I cannot get the file to import into Sketchup. When doing so I get a single vertical line with a spiral around it, all of which is in the z plane. There must be some 3D graphics I can't see in LT and Sketchup isn't liking it. I will probably have to track down the drafter. Thanks
