What version of autocad/lt are you using?
What is your Windows version?

Is this a sudden new problem, or is it limited to just one file, or does it happen in all files all the time and has done so for ever?

Hello @Anonymous,

A few questions for you to get a better idea of your situation.

  • Could you capture a screengrab of the error message?
  • What AutoCAD LT version are you using?
  • What is your OS?
  • Are you running it on a VM or bootcamp software?

Let me know if you have any new updates to provide regarding your thread or if you have any other questions.

*I have downloaded the student version of AutoCad LT 16.*

*I previously was using this version on this computer with no problem;
suddenly I cannot enter text with out the program shutting down*

*I am running Windows 8.1. I have uninstalled and reinstalled anew AutoCad
LT 16 and still have the same issue.*

*The issue occurs on file previously completed.*

*Thanks for your help!*

Hi @Anonymous,

A few questions for you so that I can narrow down where the issue might be and to give me a better idea.

  • Have you noticed if this is happening with all files or only a specific few?
  • Are you working with a lot of customizations?
  • Have you updated any other programs on your system recently?

A few things to try:

  • Save the file locally if you save to a cloud service or a server.
  • Run AutoCAD LT in a selective startup in Windows 8, test AutoCAD LT 2016 in that environment.
  • Make sure that you have applied all updates to AutoCAD LT 2016, what build are you on?

Post back and let me know if you have any other questions.

  • This issue is happening will all files. I have returned to a previous file that had no issue but, now I can't add text without a shutdown.
  • I am unaware of any customization; I'm a simple operator just learning.
  • My system uThe pdates occur automatically so, I'm not sure what's been updated.
  • All my files are saved on this laptop.
  • How do I run Autocad LT in a selective startup in Windows 8?

If I have built a drawing in 16, will an earlier Cad version open a 16 file?

Okay,

First off thanks for getting back to me. Smiley Happy

Let's have you pull the following information for me.

  • I'll need a copy of a drawing file so that I can test it on my end.
  • NFO file (AKN: How to guide

You can open a 16 drawing in an older AutoCAD LT it just depends on what version it is. You can save files down in AutoCAD LT 2016.

  • Execute SAVEAS and in the save dialog window, pick an older DWG file format from the "Files of type" drop-down menu.

Let's work off of that for now and we can go back to the drawing board after taking a look at a drawing file and the NFO file.
