Chromium host executable

When running AutoCAD LT there are 4 chromium host executable process that are taking up a lot of resources.

Killing these processes improves performance dramatically.

Is there any way of stopping these proceses from starting when AutoCAD LT starts?

Regards,

Cam.

Hi all,

I don't recommend renaming .exe files.
The reason for that is other .exe files will most likely make a call to the one you just renamed. When this happens it will again have a performance issue again or worse, an error message.

It is better to disable the functionality by not installing it if possible.

I suspect The multiple instances of the Desktop App is because I have multiple Autodesk programs installed and the Desktop App finds all the different programs and shows them to you, hence multiples instances.
I would not delete/rename them or end those processes. If you really have problems with it then here's what I'd do.

1) Stop the Autodesk Desktop App and uninstall it. You will not be able to download/install service packs and hot fixes nearly as easy, but you won't see multiple instances of the AcWebBrowser either.

2) Uninstall all Autodesk programs and install them again BUT ensure you deselect anything that has 360 in its name, this means you'll need to expand out the selections for things like AutoCAD, Architecture or Civil3D, etc, Also ensure in the sub-configurations you not only disable anything 360 but also anything that refers to the internet or a website, like the Exchange, Uncheck A360. Deselect the Desktop App and/or Application manager.

3) Go into the Autodesk program and tell it to use Offline Help. There may be an option during the install too.
That all being said, some Autodesk functionality will still need to access things within a local webpage as things like Help are web-based and typically come up in a web-type interface.

Hi!

Thank you for a good answer, but the nice thing about renaming an exe. file is that its simply to rename it back if problems should occur I believe. I'm only using plain inventor, and not the entire environment, so it worked nicely for me, but I cant speak for the more advanced users of course.

But a good idea would off course be for the users to RENAME IT BACK to the correct name BEFORE running any Autodesk applications.

Anyways, have a nice evening over there.

Your re ply states that CHE should not impact my PC. WRONG in my case. I uninstalled A360, and it has not helped. I don't even have AutoCAD LT running. Yet CHE is consuming up to 30% of my CPU time.

How do I get this to stop??

There are many tips offered to try in this very long post, don't try just one, that's not enough, try them all until the problem stops.

Known culprits include ADA, ScreenCast, online HELP instead of local HELP, and more. Start reading and testing.

For some users an all new Windows log-in is needed.

It also might help other help you if you list your AutocAd/LT year version, patches as noted in ABOUT command, and your OS.

Ok ladies and gents,

It seems like "Desktop App" has to be uninstalled from controlpanel as well after it is uninstalled with the Autodesk uninstall program , it also may have to be done from computer started in safemode, because it cant be uninstalled when running.

Also "Akamai Netsession" can in most cases be uninstalled as well...

You should be able to turn it off from the system tray then uninstall it using Control Panel. That method works for me.

Hope you have a great week.

Thank you!

Hello everyone

task manager

The easy way to get rid of the problem is open the Task manager.

Go to Services

Go to  processes.

Right click on the process and open file location

Rename the .exe file with " OLD"

Then you have the file left and nothing starts

Hi. With computer commands I don't follow as well.

When you say to rename the file, the file has the name and
then the extension. It also has it's location, to be
technical.

In your post, your said "rename". I don't understand if
your are re-naming the extension or the name itself. And
I'm assuming the file stays in the same location.

I have a Chromium Host Executable sucking 30% of CPU. I have no idea what it is, what it does, or how to find out. Is it safe to End Task? What alternative would be the best approach?

Curly.

Thanks,

Just opening the Desktop App seemed to make it disappear, but I installed all updates anyway. Hopefully that solves it.

Sorry Dean,

The fact is, AutoCad would work, if the Chromium processes were not using up the memory.

I have a brand new, 64 bit Surface with Core i7 Quad core, and the 4 Chromium extensions make my computer come to a stand still WITH AutoCAD OFF.  NOT RUNNING>

HI D,

In your system tray, do you see the "Autodesk Desktop App" running? If so, then you may be seeing the Chromium even without AutoCAD or any other Autodesk program being launched.

Please exit it as it will start several of the Chromium entries.

Also, A360 gets in there a lot and will also start a Chromium up.

Thank you and I hope you have a great week!

Well I believe It's a MALWARE from Autodesk. I'm not sure about that, but some online web help cant take you that much power, it must be possible to have it working with like 0,5% or maybe less of your CPU, I have no idea for what they use this computing power. Maybe mining bitcoins, who knows 😄

I got this too when i got a free licence of 3DS MAX, thats a tax for getting something (for me it was 3DS MAX) for free.

It was using my laptop CPU for 10% ! I'ts incredibly insolent putting background ghosts into your computer ! And i have a strong CPU 4 cores 8 threads

i7-6820HQ ! And still 7-10% used ! WTF ?!?

I am a student and im just trying to use 3DS MAX for free (thank you for that) for HEIGHTMAPS. > aaand Autodesk installed 10 tons of another bull**** into my computer i didn't want.

But I'm lucky I'm not that blind and found that worm !

Simply open your TASK MANAGER, right click on the task, and find its location folder. After that, end all the tasks and after that, delete the folder, or just the application.exe it self and it will stop from starting again. You are welcome !

When a background process is taking 35% of the CPU time when the application isn't even being used, that's not overthinking.  That's a bug.

A bug it is, but after years of being ignored, said bug looks more viral
infection than not. I stopped using Autodesk products due the invasive
system wide unwelcome toll they impose unfortunately. (I like a lot of the
interface aspects and feel of the software)

Trolling a 2017 response in 2019 is your thing these days, huh.

There are many answers to this post's questions included in these many responses, including that last one from @Anonymous today: if you need more help, post details about your setup, 95% of AutoCAD users do not have this issue, so that makes you special, not a master software bug finder that no one else on the planet figured out before you posted.
