AutoCAD LT and 3D files.

We recently received a project that included a block of a survey with 3D information (Points). Once we exploded the block the file became very large and we were barely able to use it. For example, when we attempt to print only one plot style can be used, all others crash the program. We have been working with these files (essentially drawing over top of the info) without exploding the blocks containing the 3D info and they work ok and the file size stays reasonable. My question is this, since LT is not a 3D program is this why the file continually crashes and is very slow to work with?

Would be easy to answer when the DWG is available for tests..

But also without the DWG, my opinion is: No it isn't.

Lt cannot create or edit things like 3D solids, meshes and surfaces, but it can certainly view them and they are still 3D so you can measure accurately between 3D points. Why does an exploded block slow down LT, no idea you would have to post a dwg file for us to see the types of geometry used in the file. Some programs have really specialized object types.

Don't explode it? Point Clouds are not editable, especially in LT, the reason your program is slow is because its trying to keep track of a few million/billion point objects that you let loose.

Is there a reason you need to edit the point cloud? perhaps you and the file sender can discuss them doing that for you instead.
