Hi ive been experiencing this problem, when mu autocad LT 2019 is open with a basic drawing.dwg, SDI = 1, and when i want to open another file from a folder in windows, double clicking on the .dwg does not do anything.
I have tried to open with dwg launcher, with other versions of autocad LT (2018 and 2017) and still nothing happens. THe only way to open multiple drawing is to use file > open within each autocad instance.
This is annoying since i am used to work with multiple autocad instances.
I have recorded a video:

Are you sure there isn't a hidden dialog box asking you to save the current drawing before opening another ? That is behaviour I have experienced with SDI = 1, especially with projectwise or other vault type file control software handling opening of files. You are aware that you often need multiple licences to open multiple instances of autocad ?

I have full AutoCAD 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 installed on my Windows 7 SP1
I believe this is what the OP is saying and it is happening on my PC too.
On versions prior to 2019 I can set SDI to 1 and, using Windows Explorer, can browse my drawings and when I double click on a drawing it opens a new session of AutoCAD. This is what I want to happen. (and lots of other users it appears)
ON THE SAME PC in AutoCAD 2019 I set SDI to 1 and when I double click on a dwg file (in Windows Explorer) it will open the first session on AutoCAD 2019.
If I double click a second drawing file (in Windows Explorer) nothing happens, a second session does not start.
I've been through all the "Reset settings to default", File association etc etc
When is this bug in AutoCAD 2019 going to be fixed?

We can repeat our answers again and again, but it doesn't change anything 😉
This feature (multiple sessions of Autocad in SDI-mode) is DISabled by AutoDesk!
And i don't now IF or WHEN they enable this feature again, perhaps - never, perhaps - tomorrow.
Read also this Thread, if you like 😉
EDIT: The link: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-forum/sdi-1-not-working-plus-cad-opens-to-blank-screen-ins...
BTW: Which OS are you using?
Sebastian
The feature "multiple sessions of AutoCAD 2019" is not disabled.
With SDI set to 1 you can start multiple sessions of AutoCAD by double clicking the icon on the desktop.
What IS disabled is the ability for the users to double click on a drawing file in Windows Explorer to start another session of AutoCAD 2019 once one session is running.
A bug in AutoCAD 2019, or is it listed as a "New Feature" I wonder?

In Message 23:-
"I have full AutoCAD 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 installed on my Windows 7 SP1"
Its Dec 2018
Just upgraded from 2016 LT to 2019 LT
I cant open a dwg from file explorer. I noticed the date on your post was April? I dont care about AutoCad electrical, I just want to open my files from explorer. Windows issue? Do you not design it to work with windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi @Anonymous,
I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD LT forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
r files
To be clear, your files open fine from within AutoCAD but not from Windows Explorer? What happens when you double-click a file? Does it ask to open with an application? If so, Select AutoCAD LT. If not, please describe the result?
Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.
Thank you for a quick reply.
Yes the files open fine while in AutoCAD. If I do not have AutoCAD open, and double-click on any dwg file...it launches AutoCAD but it starts with "Drawing 1" not the selected file. I tried to select AutoCAD as the default from file explorer, still does the same thing.
HI @Anonymous,
There are several possible reasons for this behavior. Please take a look at this article and try the solutions provided to see if they correct this for you.

Thanks,
You have to be joking right? You don't know how to fix it and want me to go through the threads to figure it out. Selling this product, and now for nearly a year of post on here you have know idea. It's like selling a new car and telling the guy to crawl out the windows, because the button "has some issues" WOW
They just ignore the issue, it hasnt been fixed and its absurd that i as a user of this software have to script myself out of this problem. I suggest stay on autocad 2018LT as it doesnt have this issue. Tho autocad 2017 wont work on windows 10 anymore, it was the most stable autocad to date
@Anonymous
First you have to state what your problem is, after reading this thread you should know there are
two totally different kinds of problems who matchs the title "Autocad LT 2019 does not open .dwg files"
a) If your program works as expected in MDI (SDI = 0) and your problem is only the SDI mode.
Then the answer is as you read: This functionality has been disabled (but the function is not offered anywhere)
b) All other problems (so when you have Problems with sdi=0 to open files from explorer, your welcome to talk about your problem and we will solve this together)

Hi @Anonymous,
I am sorry that the article isn't easy enough for you to follow. Let me know which of the steps you are having problems performing. These are the sames things I would do on your machine if I had access to it. Since this is a web forum, this is the kind of response you should look for. For hands-on support I suggest you create a support case from your account page.
I believe your original question was clearly answered previously as SDI is not a supported feature. I am unsure also about your statement that AutoCAD 2017 does not work on Windows 10. Here are the system requirements for that version.
WTF autodesk. This is a new low even for you guys. Can we expect a fix to this anytime soon or does this epic fail signify the beginning of the end for AutoCAD? Please tell us now if this is the farewell to dwg launcher feature and feature after feature will follow as part of your grand plan to push everyone into revit.
>" or does this epic fail signify the beginning of the end for AutoCAD? "
Sorry, but if you talk about this case (SDI), the beginning of the end started in year 2000,
where the MDI started and was till now the default interface and state of the art since 20years now.
End of the month you can test or ask if the problem still present in Version 2020 😉
