Autocad LT 2017 Storage

Anonymous

Hi there

I'm new to here, appreciate your advice.

I have a MacBook running Bootcamp Windows 10. I have recently installed AutoCAD LT 2017 and I have noticed my storage has reduced by 30Gb.

I have spoken with our IT consultant who confirmed this is due to AutoCAD.

Does anyone know who much storage LT requires and whether there are any temporary files which are hidden within Windows 10 that can be deleted to retrieve some storage back?

Many thanks

LT2017, fully installed, only takes up 1.5Gig: the program told you so during installation.

Install a freeware called CCLEANER, it's primary function is to remove temp and unnecessary files in Windows, it may help you with the 30GB plus you seek.

thanks for the response.

I run CC Cleaner and it clears files daily.

Do you know if AutoCAD downloads libraries or updates on a daily basis which I could stop. Out IT consultant is convinced that AutoCAD is causing the issue but does not know where the temp files are located on Windows 10.

I have since lost another 5gb today and have zero storage available.

Your IT Consultant needs to dig deeper into your system to find out where your 30GB are, we are not seeing anywhere near that amount of disk-space loss with AutoCAD/LT installations. it might be a much bigger problem going on in the background.

Hi Dean

Thanks for the response.

IT chap says the files are hidden on Windows 10. I've no idea where to look

See this if true https://windows.gadgethacks.com/how-to/reclaim-up-20-gb-hard-drive-space-after-installing-windows-10...

Otherwise there are no 30Gig hidden files from AutoCAD/LT on our systems, sorry, you've got something else going on.

Sorry me again...

I've run the disk utility clean up and only retrieved 136mb.

Do you know where all Autocad related files are stored in Windows?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD LT forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I agree with @pendean that AutoCAD LT should not consume resources like this. To clarify though, is this storage located on a local drive or a NAS, thumbdrive or something else?

My AutoCAD LT 2018 requires about 1 GB. I have a little more data stored in my User Profile too. I am curious however on how you think this is AutoCAD LT causing this problem.  Have you checked for instance, the size of your Windows profile Documents folder or your TEMP folder?

Is this Bootcamp connected to a network that perhaps uses Roaming Profiles?

You can try to do a clean uninstall of AutoCAD LT but I highly doubt that it is going to free this much space although it will be a good test.

Hi @john.vellek and @pendean

Thanks for your help, I've referred bat to IT as AutoCAD doesn't seem to be the issue. I made space yesterday and I've lost another 3gb today and I've not worked off of the laptop today.

Oh such fun!.. I'm sure we'll get it sorted

Thanks again

Andy

Hi @Anonymous,

Perhaps it is time to use a more powerful file manager than the built-in Windows Explorer.  I found this review that might be helpful to you to find where all your files are growing.

I think you may get a virus on your Macbook.

Without reason, Lost disk space is one of that symptoms.

Check your another symptom of the virus, and I hope you to fix it.
