AutoCAD 2004 LT vs DWGeditor from solidworks

I'm trying to find any glaring differences between AutoCAD 2004 LT and Solidwork's DWGeditor and so far have been unable to find. Can anyone else shed some light on comparing these two? Thank you Edited by: pwendt on Jul 7, 2009 1:22 PM

To quote the site:
"DWGeditor is free with the purchase of SolidWorks software. ''

So, if you are already a customer of theirs, or soon to be spending money
with them to qualify for the freebie, does it really matter? You are after
all comparing it to LT2004, a 6-7 version back old CAD program.

Well, the problem is that I'm in IT, with a mid-sized company, we have both AutoCAD (20 licenses) and Solidworks (10 licences) as well as NX (400 licenses), Pro/E (20 licenses), and CATIA (1 license) and one of our plants has requested AutoCAD2004 LT. We offered them DWGeditor (as we have that for free) due to the current ecnomic conditions we would prefer not to purchase any additonal licenses. I've been comparing the two and haven't found any major differences, however, I'm not that well versed in either (I'm much more at home in NX or Pro/E) so I thought I would ask the people who would know. Any thoughts? Edited by: pwendt on Jul 7, 2009 1:42 PM

I totally understand, did not know where you were coming from.

Since you cannot buy LT2004 anywhere legally, if you have it give them what
they seek, if you do not, the freebie with an explanation of why would be
fine IMHO. The two programs appear to be as limited as each other, no more
and no less, judging by the freebie trial I'm looking at.

Thank you for the reply. We seem to be finding the same results in the comparisons.

Thanks again.

incredible isn't it? and if you can find a 30 day demo of solidworks,
DWGeditor installs with it. uninstall the solidworks demo and you get the
option of leaving DWGeditor installed, though it is probably not solidworks
intention to give you a legal copy.
and DWGeditor is closer to an earlier full autocad than any version of
LT...i am sure to get razzed for that, it does come up short in allot of
areas, but then allot of the stuff I wish was available in LT (examples: 3D,
lisp, xclip, align) is available in DWGeditor. Some of the real shortcomings
are hard to take though, hatch capabilities for instance.
