I have this issue occasionally, but it's really intolerable on the current drawing. For the area command, the first and second points are fine, but to select the third, nothing sticks (I click and nothing happens) until I got very far away from the second point. I've got drawings from other firms xrefed into mine, so there are variables there. I know their drawing has Z values, but this issue is not solved by turning off osnap. All the other topics about this I've seen have been issues with the elevation, but shouldn't that resolve if I'm not using osnap? I'm using ACAD LT 2023.

@stacieCBEKT Can you repeat the issue on demand? If yes, share with us a DWG file here and explain how we can follow along.

If not, not sure there is going to be a fix.

FYI: there is little you can do with 3D content in LT.

Hi

a 3rd point is never a problem (area with 3 points is 100 plane).

Osnaps off, thats the best for tests, right.

Far away from the first and second point works?

My question is: how far?

Use command DIST and click your point2 and the 3rd point your want.

Dist is? [F2]

And where do you draw, set UCS to WCS

Run command: ID

Check coordinates [F2]

You say AREA, but is it AREA or

MEASUREGEOM?

Run command: AREA

You want my file plus the xref, and then instructions on exactly where I'm clicking? Let me know if I'm misunderstanding. I've attached my file - Cypress Creek, and the xrefed file - civil. The issue only occurs in my file. Precisely, in model space, type area, then click the building corner near the large grey 1, then the corner near the large grey 2. Then click around and see how far you have to go before you can get a third click to stick. Do not use OSNAP.

Far is relative to the distance between points 1 and 2. Must go much further than that similar distance. And really, the third point should be able to be anywhere shouldn't it?

"And where do you draw, set UCS to WCS

Run command: ID

Check coordinates [F2]"

I don't understand what you're saying here.

Yes, I meant AREA, specifically.

Edited:

Let me ask what I want to know by another way, please type in:

UCS<enter>w<enter>

Zoom<enter>*0,0<enter>*300,200<enter>

Try AREA again, NOW.

What happens after the 3rd click?

Is acad asking for the next point?

Press <enter> and share the last 15 log rows pls

[F2]

Weirdly, that seemed to have fixed it. I'm not sure why. UCS was already in world (I checked before I changed it). What else would have changed it? I'd like to know so that I understand what needs to change next time this occurs. I zoomed back over to my drawing area and it worked there, too.

Command: UCS
Current ucs name: *WORLD*
Specify origin of UCS or [Face/NAmed/OBject/Previous/View/World/X/Y/Z/ZAxis] <World>: w
Command: ZOOM
Specify corner of window, enter a scale factor (nX or nXP), or
[All/Center/Dynamic/Extents/Previous/Scale/Window/Object] <real time>: 0,0
Specify opposite corner: 300,200
Regenerating model.
Command: AREA
Specify first corner point or [Object/Add area/Subtract area] <Object>:
Specify next point or [Arc/Length/Undo]:
Specify next point or [Arc/Length/Undo]:
Specify next point or [Arc/Length/Undo/Total] <Total>:

OK, I switched xrefs to a previous version of the xref file, and that made the area stop working. I did the ucs and zoom per your instructions and the area seemed to work, but I zoomed to extents to find my work area again, zoomed into the drawing, and the area function is malfunctioning again.

That's why I tried to get information about where you try to use area (coordinates).

While ucs=world,

at the position you want to use area

Command: ID<enter>

and pick to a point you want

[F2]

If coordinates are toooo high or low,

this can force errors.

What coordinate is it?

Higher than 10.000.000 units on  X or Y ?

(Sorry, I can't check you .dwg files / I am far from Acad)

@stacieCBEKT Ask the C3D file creator to "export to autocad" to a simplified file you can use in LT, there is no C3D enabler for LT and that is likely 100% of your issue.

Other conditions that you appear to be fighting include

pendean_0-1738760153507.png

pendean_1-1738760244073.png

basically, you are exceeding the program's ability to "compute" points.

You and the Civil3D file creator need to work together on this one.

I've asked him to flatten his file. It's on a list of things I need him to adjust...what's one more thing?...except he'll have to do it again every revision.

As far as the location in space, I'm not sure I can get that changed. Too many people are coordinating files on this. I think it generally placed by the surveyors, with the coordinates tying in to real world locations.

Another weird thing is that the issue is only with the third click. If you go far enough to get it to stick, all subsequent clicks work without issue.
