AC LT2017 - Double Click block tries to edit attribute, not open in block editor

Anonymous
Not applicable

Im trying to double click a block to edit it.

It has attributes but these are switched off via visabilty.

When visabilty is switched the attibute pops up.

When switched off it states 'The selected block has no editable attributes.'

In 2016, double clicking would have simply acivated the block editor in this situation (which I want it to)

I also note there is a change to DBLCLKEDIT variable - its now 'ON or OFF' instead of '1 or 0'- related?

Is there a work around or just an unwanted change to principles.

Show us a DWG file with such a block problem in it: we all have LT2017 (andf LT2016) and can test it.

Running Autocad LT 2021 on Windows 10 Pro on a Dell intel core i7 PC

_

This issue started occurring in my files without warning... Am I mistaken in believing that an attribute dynamic block used to be able to distinguish between the double click actions when you click either the pertinent attribute or the linework of the block itself? I have tried going into the CUI and changing the commands, and the changes go into effect but it does not revert to the way it previously worked; if i change to edit attribute, it'll prompt to edit attribute; if i change to edit block, it'll open the block editor, regardless of if I double click the attribute or not.

I noticed this issue when I would double click an attribute dynamic block where there was no attribute in the visibility it was currently displaying... Upon double clicking the block, it would initiate the eattedit command and prompt me to select a block with an attribute... previously it would open the bedit prompt. Has anyone found a way to fix this? Is this an issue with the block itself? Can I restore the double-click actions to default settings without a full re-install? Thanks!

@maxFSZBF BEDIT opens if you do NOT double-click on an attribute or where one should be. Or at least it should (it does here every single time). Show us in a DWG file with such a block problem in it: we all have LT2021 and can test it.

Or post in the Dynamic Blocks forum instead (you'll still want to share a DWG file with the problem block in it) https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/dynamic-blocks-forum/bd-p/154

@pendean

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes - i'm not sure if it's an issue with the particular block or with my CUI... but take either the receptacle block or the switch block... both have instances in the file with and without an attribute visible.

Previously, if I double clicked on the "GFI" attribute text it would open an EATTEDIT Prompt; if I double clicked on the receptacle linework it would open the BEDIT prompt. Now, for some reason it's one or the other, depending on my CUI settings. Because now my CUI is set to eattedit on double click, if you double-click an instance of the block where an attribute is NOT visible, it brings up the EATTEDIT command, but asks me to select a block with an attribute. Previously, if an attribute was not visible, it would open the bedit.

Thanks for the file: when you say "previously", what year version/variant of AutoCAD are we talking about? I tested back to LT2019 here, no change in behavior.

In your file with your content you will need to select the block, then right-click to select BEDIT.
or totally remove EATTEDIT as a double-lick function in CUI for ATTRIBUTE DYNAMIC BLOCK then add BEDIT. Perhaps that's how your older version was modified (most likely).

By previously, I mean before last week; on 2021, but also it was the standard behavior of previous CAD versions.

So - yes - now if I change to attribute dynamic block double click to BEDIT, then it opens BEDIT. Forgive me if I'm not being super clear... the previous way double clicking worked is that it initiated a different command depending on WHERE on the block you clicked. If you clicked on the attribute, it'd open the eattedit dialog box; whereas if you clicked on another part of the block that was NOT the attribute, it would open the BEDIT dialog. Similarly, if the block was set to a visibility setting where there was no visible attribute, it would open the BEDIT dialog.

As far as I know, I wasn't using any lisps or routines that enabled double clicking to function that way... but without warning, it ceased to function that way. Now it's only ever BEDIT or EATTEDIT, depending on how I set the CUI.

Make sense? So now if I change the double click action on my attribute dynamic block to BEDIT, it'll open the BEDIT, even if the area I'm clicking is the attribute.

Thanks for the explanation: I am unaware of any updates in the last one-two-three weeks that changed the behavior, sorry.

I believe in myself, even if Pendean's answer sounds like he agrees with you about the former behavior,
but maybe I'm misinterpreting that.

Your memory is playing tricks on you

- It wasn't depening on where you doubleclicked

- Blockreferences with hidden attributs (hidden by visibility parameter) forces a warning alert and no edit-command
