Converting Layers

We get cad files from another company which of course use their own layer standards. I am trying to find a way that I can convert their layers,colors,linetypes to our standards w/o having to do each one individually.
Thanks in Advance

I do not have experience with this but I think the standars manager is what
you are looking for.

on further review, I may have jumped the gun.

If they give you the same layer all the time you could create a script file
using the RENAME command and jus run it on there files when they come in.

Express Tools Layer Translator (LAYTRANS at the command line) would make you
smile - I think. 😉

Here's a Tech Support article from the Desker's Knowledge Base (in my
tinyurl) for your enlightenment j_seph. Mainly due to not being able to find
Help in the Express Tools. The index in ET Help had it listed, but alas
there was a notice re. "cannot display the webpage" on my attempt to click
it;
http://tinyurl.com/35675m

I've used it with much gratitude in my recent past. It takes a little while
to setup for each firm you get dwg files from, but from then on - it's
gravy. And I tried it out just now, and it worked OK with LDT 2K4.

Obviously it (LayTrans) wasn't previously part of your repertoire Joe. 😉

On nice thing about laytrans is you can save the layer translations to use
again. That's about as close as you will get to an EASY button with this.

Thanks for mentioning the part I forgot to speak of John.

I was fairly sure it was in the KB article though.

(time passes during a check)
Underneath step 5, is where that is mentioned.

Hey Scott;

Is Tools one of the menus that normally "hangs-out" on the newer releases?
IOW, anything past LDT 2K4, where it does n-o-t show up in either LDT or CD
2K4.

TIA

It shows up as part of the AutoCAD menus, simply change to AutoCAD
workspace, or customize a workspace to add the menu.
