Window selection clicks twice without input

Autocad 2022 seems to be cancelling my window selection. When I quickly try to select objects with window selection, for both blue rectangular selection box aswell as the green one, it sometimes clicks(?) out of itself. We've always worked and still work with AutoCAD 2015 and this issue never occured, so it's not a hardware issue.
It seems to be caused by an XREF since the drawing I'm working on right now doesn't have this issue when I freeze the layer of the XREF.

It's also not caused by the XREF itself because multiple other drawings with other XREFS had the same issue.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this? I did all recent updates with no succes.

Sometimes? That means you have something else going on. You'll need to find out more, dig a lot deeper.
Always on demand 100%? Then it is an AutoCAD problem. But there is no such issue in R2022.1.2 in Win10Pro in our offices for any of our users.

FWIW replace your mouse (use a wired one as the replacement), and see if your problem goes away.

Hey Pendean,

thanks for the quick reply but I'm 100% sure it isn't my mouse. I already use a wired one and it's not doing this in earlier versions of AutoCAD.

You're right about something else going on, because it is indeed sometimes.

I just tried duplicating the XREFs a few times and it went from occuring 1 out of 10 times to 1 out of 3 times...

It's been a while so I'm not sure but I think I did.

Pickauto is set to 5

If you never test, then test, then test again, you'll always be doomed to never solving any issues.

I would also disable whatever 3rd party mouse that is in use too if there is one: WindowsOS runs any wired mouse just fine on its own.

Also, what is your CURSORTYPE set to? the default setting listed in HELP is what you always want.

I just started a new drawing and duplicated some objects with a lot of fields, and it seems to trigger the 'double click' too. So I can cross off the XREF too, the xref just made it harder to process the drawing I assume?

Ok so took an old wired mouse and it keeps occuring

Cursortype is set to 0, which is the default setting according to 'help'.

if you did import settings i would try resetting to default.

That said i would check something else before i did that.

Next time it doe it, go to the command line and type SELECT and then enter P. If it selects the things you were intending to select then there is something triggering a command afterwards.

Really appreaciate the feedback, I'll try resetting to default tomorrow.

When I typed select and P it selected obejct which I intentionally selected a while ago. The 'cancelled' selectionbox double clicked too quickly to select something so I don't think something cancels it afterwards. If resetting to default doesn't help, I'll download a screenrecording program to show you what happens.

ok.

I would also try changing the keyboard. I frequently wear out the ctrl and shift button on mine and they cause havoc until I figure it out. (I once had a delete button get stuck and cleared out my inbox lol)

If your enter key is stuck or has a feather trigger, it could be repeating a command. Also i like to have my mouse set to repeat last command.

When it comes to screen recording software check out screencast

I went back to default settings and the problem is gone. So something in my settings was triggering it.

Edit1: cheered too soon. Still happens.

I made a recording of the clicking and with the Screencast recorder you can see it clicks, I'll swap my keyboard now to see if it helps.

One weird thing is that it occurs way more frequent if the drawing is zoomed in on a lot of lines as you can see in the video attached below.

Edit2: still happening with another keyboard.

Fishin' in the Dark

change your Windows DPI scaling to 100%

set resolution to HD(1920 x 1080) or near to it.

disable hardwareacceleration / graphicsconfig

Disable GFXDX12

Is it Windows11 or Win10?

Tried everything, still no luck 😣 DirectX 11 also didn't solve it.

I'm on windows 10 Pro

Not really a solution but after trying out 2021 (which behaved the same way), I installed AutoCAD 2023 and it seems to behave normal even after importing my settings from 2015.

So I'm going to skip 2k21 and 2k22 and start using 2023.

Thanks for your ideas and help!

Glad you got a work around!

If it comes look into SELECTIONPREVIEW and see if it makes a difference.  Also i would check back at the PICKAUTO setting and play with those... Are the windows you are working in detached?  its soo odd that it work as intended for 2015 and 2023... Also... is your office the kind to indulge in pranks? Check your PC for any extra dongles or bluetooth connections.. or mouse jiggles etc.

Both doesn't affect my problem in 2022. Also pranking isn't an option, but great thinking! I honestly think it has something to do with my graphics, since it occurs way more when AutoCAD has to process more.
Only weird thing is that it's only on 2021 and 2022 but not in 2023. If I find some spare time I will dig further into this, but for now 2023 will do 🙂

Everything became clear this morning. Autocad 2023 was running without add-ins, where 2021-2020 had the Add-in 'LevelSet' from Richard Stima. After installing this on 2023 the problem occured again. So I guess I will have to contact the creators of the plugin to solve this issue. Case officially closed!
