whole ctrl + commands are not working

none of ctrl commands are working. when i try ctrl + A i saw group on/off text on the list below screen. how can i get over this problem?

FYI... CTRL+SHIFT+A toggles groups on/off

Maybe the stapler was lying across the SHIFT key to keep the screensaver from locking his workstation;)
