Weeding vertical elevation only

I'd like to weed vertical values rather than complete vertices or PI. Is this possible? When weeding with grade factor only the vertices/PI are completely deleted even when horizontal weeding factors (Angle, Grade) are not used. I'm not sure why the WEEDFEATURES command works this way. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks

are you using vanilla AutoCAD or civil 3d? This is the AutoCAD forum. 

That said... would flatten do what you need?
