Unable to erase or change line

Autocad 2016 - when drawing a new line, offsetting an existing line, copying a line... occasionally the line cannot be erased, trimmed, filleted, etc. When I list the entity, it list fine, I can select it and it ghosts - I just can't do anything with it. If I run AUDIT - I can then perform any operation on the line I want. It's random - doesn't affect all lines. Any thoughts? I've tried hardware acceleration settings, line smoothing, etc. - nothing has made a difference. Thank you in advance!

Which doesn't erase? Or is it as noted in response above this one? Leave layer 0 on/thawed/unlocked ALL the time, and never EVER draw anything on it that can't stay on all the time.

New development - when the drawing is saved, reopened... everything behaves properly. I know all about Layer 0...I started using Autocad at Release 2.6.....

Hi,

Everything on the dropbox file appears to trim and extend very well.

FWIW... You have a bunch of overlapping lines in the drawing and a very tiny line in the lower left of the cyan centerline boundary.

You really would need to clean things up with OVERKILL and remove any stray objects to get clean results.  Start with deleting the polyline bounday and see the lines that remain.  Don't use window but just select the polyline to delete.

I've been using since 1984 and some of the simplest things can still get us at times.

Cheers,

Blaine

Can't trim, fillet or extend can be a polyline with a zero line length, that's all I can think of.

Or a closed polyline with a boundary around that you might try to extend to. Extend won't work in that case.

@beyoungjr, @Patchy - I found that if the drawing is saved and reopened, all works as expected. Yes, agree on OVERKILL - but I've had the issue start appearing after very few lines have been drawn in a new dwg. Also aware of the issues with polylines - but that's not the case. When it happens, I usually LIST the entity to check everything - not a polyline, same elevation, not on a locked layer (I'll do LAYER ON, THAW, UNLOCK * to be sure)... for the life of me I can't figure out what triggers it.

Your posted file works well here too, just like the others have noted.

Are you runnng any third party add-ons or a customization that is always on/startup?

Hi @Anonymous,

I looked at your drawing and purged it, ran audit, and even removed 19 regapps using -Purge. I then ran Exporttoautocad.

when I opened the new drawing, I ran overkill as you had lines on top of other lines.

At this point I can't get it to fail the way you are describing.

Can you try these steps too and/or try it with my attached drawing and tell me if you are still having problems with it?

Hi, I know it's quite a lot of time, but I have had this problem in the past few days, until now, with autocad 2022 portable and two xlines. I've solved changing the visual style from 2d wireframe to 3d wireframe. In 3d wireframe I'm abled to select and erase the objects.
Hope this help 🙂
