Unable to erase or change line

Autocad 2016 - when drawing a new line, offsetting an existing line, copying a line... occasionally the line cannot be erased, trimmed, filleted, etc. When I list the entity, it list fine, I can select it and it ghosts - I just can't do anything with it. If I run AUDIT - I can then perform any operation on the line I want. It's random - doesn't affect all lines. Any thoughts? I've tried hardware acceleration settings, line smoothing, etc. - nothing has made a difference. Thank you in advance!

Open your file with RECOVER command and QSAVE it and see if the issues go away: there is no universal cure for "random", try to dig a little deeper next time and see if commands like REGENALL will fix it instead of AUDIT.

Hi and Welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

I suggest to Disable Hardware Acceleration from 3DCONFIG command.try to do it because it will help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

This problem sounds like it might be a graphics card driver issue. If you disable graphics hardware acceleration does the problem persist? Have you checked to see if there is a newer driver available for you graphics card?

In case this is drawing related, can you attach your file here and I will take a look to see if I can duplicate the problem?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

@john.vellek - Thanks for responding. Yes, I've updated graphics drives, turned graphic hardware acceleration on / off. I'll post a drawing shortly - thank you for the offer.

Are you drawing them on a locked Layer?

@Kent1Cooper - no, not on a locked layer. I can draw 3 lines one right after the other and two of them can be edited/erased, etc. and one of the can't be.

LOL.. no such thing as a stupid question at times like this. Yes, I've installed all updates and hot fixes for Win10 and ACAD 2016.

PICKADD and PICKFIRST variables on? TEMPOVERRIDES turned off? Drafting lines in different UCS? Have OSNAPZ on? Is this a problem in ALL files, or just this one?

Like I wrote earlier, there is no fix for random occurrences: can you dig a little deeper next time it happens?

@pendean - I understand about no easy fix for random. I've been searching for solutions for a while.. variables you mentioned have been tried on/off. Still have the issue. I've attached a drawing that has two lines in it I cannot erase, change layer, color, etc.

I seem to be unable to attach a file... I choose the file, click add attachment?

Are you using this Attachment "slot" below the message body area [and below the Screencast-insertion slot]?

You should be able to just pick "CHOOSE FILE", navigate to and select it, and pick Open [or something -- it may vary with operating system, etc.], and its name should appear in place of the "No file chosen" above.  That should be all it takes.

Is the line in 3D space. If the line is on a different elevation to your other entities, then they do not cross - they appear to be in-line until you view from the side. You can snap to each line but will not be able to trim etc.

If it is the problem, select all lines and set the Z vectors to 0 and don't do it again - I speak from experience.

We have to be able to recreate the problem in order to help you identify a solution. How do we do that? Find a method that eliminates the randomness.

Kind of like when you talk to a mechanic to tell them about a problem with a function in your car, they cannot replicate, AND you keep your car at home to boot.

use Dropbox (or Google Drive or OneDrive or...) if you can't use the method in this forum to share files if needed.

The problem is if you turn layer zero off or freeze it , Objects on Defpoints layer can't be selected, that's all.

Start using more layers.
