The goal is to trim the this pattern within the closed polyline as drawn. However, the polyline seems to form an incomplete border and the trimming is not as intended, leaving out some of the pattern. Can anyone say why this closed polyline forms an incomplete border?

For some reason (I don't know why) AutoCAD can't find an intersection point between your shape and one (or some) of the splines. After repairing that (using the flatten command) I can trim without of problems.
