Tool Palette Block Insertion w Explode

Hi All,

I searched the forum and found a very similar thread from 2013 here but it doesn't have a solution, only a work-around:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/tool-palette-not-exploding-properly/m-p/3941324#M22284

I've been working with tool palettes since they came out (and I love them) and haven't seen this problem until now. I've upgraded to v2017 several months ago and to my knowledge, this problem did not exist before v2017.

I have a TP that contains a family of standard details. The properties are all set as shown in the attached screenshot. Notice that the "Insert > Explode" is set to "Yes" and this is where I believe the issue exists. If I drag the block from the TP into the drawing or pick on it and pick an insertion point in the drawing, either way the block is exploded BUT certain objects are changed from the layer they were on in the source drawing, to layer "0"

What's up with that??

If I change the properties of the block in the TP from what is shown attached to "Insert > Explode" "No" and complete the insertion and THEN manually explode the block, all is good. This was pointed out in the referenced thread.

The objects that are being moved to a different layer are all blocks themselves, and they are being moved to layer "0"

NOTE: They are not being exploded, only moved to layer "0"

Arghhhh, I just now noticed that all the TPs I've been using for years without a problem, are not exhibiting the same results.

Someone, please tell me there is a hot fix or a SP to make this right. Please help me.

Sal

Its the same in older Version (2013 for example), for me it is an old Bug.

In this way it works different to command explode, more like the command Xplode.

It inserted the Block A, explode it and than put the properties from your Palette-tool to the (before nested) Blockreference of Block B.

But only for Blockreferences, yes.

Some additional information:

I've only done this for the first time recently but in order to dictate the order of the individual palettes, I exported each palette then imported each into a new TP in the order I wanted them to appear. I suspect something could've happened on that trip?!?!

I also thought something might be in my drawing template file so I tried the same tools in the acad.tmp file and got the same results so I'm thinking it is not the TMP file.

Any suggestions?

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for your input. While this problem may have been around since 2013 or before, I've used just about each release and have not seen this before. But if this bug did exist for so long, is there no fix?

Come on Autodesk! This bug just corrupted every one of my palettes. What am I to do?

See my answer above: Old problem, no solution.

You would have to go a different way,

using a menu macro, for example, but then you would need a separate DWG for each tool (for each block).

Or you need to controle Color and Layer and so on by Tool-Properties.

Our answers have overlapped.
You or I can escalate this thread to support, let's see what happens.

I do it..

HI @sbrusco,

I actually haven't seen this issue but @cadffm indicates that it has been around for a while.

Please tell me this. If you create a new palette and drag the block onto it and then set it to Explode on insert, does that work?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

It appears only the OP can escalate?? I thought that any EE could escalate any issue.

In either case, I am the OP and an EE but I can't see how to escalate this thread.

Oh, I feel so helpless.

Any help out there on how to advance this issue?

TIA

HI @cadffm,

Thanks for the file. I can duplicate this on my side too. Does this happen only with nested blocks? What happens with a simple block or a dynamic block?  For me, those items behave.

@sbrusco I suggest that you Schedule a call with support or start a Chat.

I will log this issue with the team for their investigation. Here are some options to get this to work in the mean time.

1) Turn off the EXPLODE in the properties. After inserting the block, explode it manually

2) Use a macro to insert the blocks from the palette with this syntax: insert;*BLOCKNAME;\;;

Thanks for your patience  - I hope that the team can quickly determine what is happening with this issue.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi @sbrusco,

on your first post of the thread you should see a button 'Need an answer' if you as Expert Elite want to escalate manually. It is below the reply button.

This gives you as Expert Elite the option you want.

Hope that helps

Thanks Tarek,

I found the "Need an Answer" button. I don't know what I was looking for but this is fairly obvious. I guess I was looking for an "Escalate" button or something.

Thanks again,

Sal

Did you ever find a solution to this?

Clearly the issue still exists as we have discovered this bug on many of our TP's. Its the same problem as referred in 2013 above, all I can assume is it is a very difficult to fix as it has taken a very long time with still no solution (I am using 2026).
