Text Styles with Identical Properties (and Sizes) Showing as Different Sizes

Curiously, I have two text styles with identical text style properties, both at 3/32" inch tall. When I use these side by side, they are different heights. To make things more mysterious, in the individual mtext properties, they have identical properties here as well.

Sure, see attached. Both styles are shown in paperspace on 'layout1'. 

Furthermore, in this drop-down there are two 3/32" options... not sure why.

Change your drawing's units (via the UNITS command) to decimal and precision to 8 places. Then check the text heights again. Fractional units can "lie" to you by rounding to the nearest precision.

See attached, fixed as noted by others: as a general rule, when things look different they totally are for sure.

The height set in STYLE is different between the two. The automatic rounding of UNITS made it look like they were the same height.

Thanks, everyone! I'm wondering how this happened, though. I have the precision set to 1/32 in the file, and created these two text styles "from scratch" at 3/32" tall, so who knows how that happened... strange!

Caution: the *VARIES* property is not dependable, especially if units are Fractional or Architectural and low precision.

I created two pieces of text; one 0.375 ht and the other 0.400 ht. With Units set to Architectural and 1/16 precision, both display 3/8" height.

I've always been a fan of using the highest precision possible. Doing so provides real-time QC, highlighting any dimensions that are slightly off.

It is dependable if your UNITS precision is set as all the others in this post suggested, and as I reset in the file I posted back for the OP 😉

Here's one last question. If I open a complete blank autocad template, set the precision as high as possible, and create Mtext in paperspace using the "standard" text size, there are already four text sizes available to pick from. Why?! See attached.

Lol! Yes, lots of things are "dependable" if everything is set up properly to begin with.

Thank you for leading us in the right direction.   Our situation was slightly different.   We found that the "Width Factor" was inconsistent between the two drawings.     "Width Factor" is found under Format / Text Style.
