Text disappearing

I am self-learning AutoCAD 2018 using video tutorials. Just learning to add text using the Multiline text tool in Annotate. I create a text space and then type my desired text but when I click outside the area I'm writing the text in to apply the command the text just disappears???

Hi,

make sure that you are typing on a layer that it's ON / THAW  from LAYER command . or try LAYON and LAYTHW  commands.

Which text style are you using? STYLE command, find out.
What is the assigned height to that text style?
It might also be way too small (you are zoomed out too far) or way too big (you are zoomed in too tight) to see.

think its because of little text size. just increase it before typing

Create new drawing.

then first goto command ZOOM and select ALL

Hi,

>> I'm writing the text in to apply the command the text just disappears

AutoCAD has one problem when you start the text command with a text height that does either not fit to the display area (text too large) or when the text height for the MTEXT object is too small (for the displayed area) to see the text while typing (e.g. you have a displayed AutoCAD model-space area from 0,0 to 420,210, but the text size is set to 0.1 ==> you won't see the text you are typing because it's just a pixel on the display).

So to solve this problem AutoCAD gives you a temporary display of the text that fits best to your current display area, then you can type letters and you can see what you type. After you finished editing AutoCAD closes this temporary object and the text will get it's defined position and text-size you have assigned.

To see now your text you either need to do a ZOOM EXTENTS (if the text-size was set to a larger size than the current display shows) or you need to zoom more close to the MTEXT object (best to be found zooming to the first point you selected when showing the MTEXT box).

Best at least should be that you know first how big the text should be and to zoom to the position where you want to have that text shown/plotted before you start the MTEXT command 😉

[Just a clarification --  You don't need to make sure the Layer you're typing on is Thawed, because a Frozen Layer cannot be the current one.  But the current Layer can be turned Off, which would result in what the OP describes, if it's not a Text-size  issue as others have discussed.]
