Stretching Lines along Extension

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm currently using AutoCAD 2015LT.

I'm not sure if I made a mistake when adjusting my Options, but I can no longer grab the grip on items and stretch them in-line with their extension. OSnap is on as well as the extension selection, but I know I used to be able to grab the grip on a polyline and just pull to extend a line. This is proving very annoying since a lot of the things I'm trying to extend to are lines in reference files. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Seems to work OK here in regular AutoCAD.

Have you tried reducing the number of running OSnaps?

Do other tracking modes work?

Can you see the AutoTrack marker  (plus sign)?

I don't believe this is an issue with using LT compared to regular AutoCAD. The option worked previously, but I think I unchecked something somewhere which turned it off and I'm having difficulty figuring out how to turn it back on.

This seems like it's as easy as rechecking the right box, but I'm not sure where said box is.

When you select the grip, do other tracking modes work,  ie polar tracking

Do you see the AutoTrack marker (the plus sign)?

Polar tracking works fine. Thanks for the video clarification, no the autotrack marker is not appearing.

I did a quick help search with that keyword and identified some information regarding clicking the checkboxes for autotracking under options. I do have all boxes checked under the autotrack settings subgroup (and did prior to asking the question), but it doesn't seem to be helping. Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks!

AutoSnap tracking turned on? (status bar toggle or F11)

If yes, you should be able to add or remove an AutoTrack marker each time you return to the Object snap point/grip as shown in the animation.  Does that work?  I don't think Extension will work if the marker isn't present.

That was turned off, unfortunately turning it on didn't seem to help.

The system variable for grips is set to 2, itbemedg.

I wasn't sure what in particular you wanted me to check in the first part of your reply. The selection options appeared to be ok, but I wasn't sure if you wanted me to look at something in particular. Please clarify.

Do you have the extention box checked in your snaps under drafting settings?

Extension check box was the first thing I checked, sthompson. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy this time as that box is checked.

AUTOSNAP's variable is 55. That seems like an odd value, do you know what it should be?

I feel like I must be on the wrong track troubleshooting, hopefully someone else will chime in.  Before I give up though, can you confirm that the AutoTrack marker does appear for other tasks, like tracking from the endpoint of a line.

Doesn't appear to be showing up. I duplicated what you showed in your video using lines and did not see anything. I typically use polylines and tried it with them as well, but did not see any difference. Attached is a screenshot depicting just the grip showing, I don't seem to get the Autotrack marker you mentioned.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, but if not thank you for the effort. I did get to learn some commands I didn't know about before. 🙂

No AutoTrack marker?  So you can't use Osnap Tracking at all, as shown in this video?  -->  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnIww6Ndb2c

Have you used Osnap Tracking previously in AutoCAD LT?

Sorry, I may not have been clear. I am able to use things like orthogonal tracking as depicted in that video, but I'm still not able to draw a line which is an extension of the original.

I've been noticing a '+' sign when I do orthogonal tracking this morning, I'm not sure if that was showing up yesterday. It may have been but the symbol was too small to see. The way I noticed it was by starting the line from a large zoom out and upon zooming in the '+' becoming notably more obvious.

hi, i have found the answer to this, as i used to do this stretching extension lines before in cad2014...

1. Go to Tools > Drafting Settings> Dynamic INput

2. Settings under 'dimension input'

3. Change to only show length change

voila!

apparently by default in cad 2015, you can TAB to change which parameters to change using this dynamic input, just TAB to input the length change...
